i played about 2-3 hours a day average with maybe 3-5 on the weekends, i think it's the prolonged exposure that causes the dreaming though, after about 2 months i dreamt nothing but tetris all night long
they want useful experience, so next time they can say i helped design build test blah whatever. let local schools career centers know. include as much information as possible so you get somebody who is really interested. maybe even give them a chance to try something different, since they arent getting paid as much it wont cost so much to you.
the professor's give the groups that pay students to copy those notes permission to do so. and if it really is paraphrasing and not copying the 'lecture' than i doubt the law applies
don't forget if you want to spend taxpayer money to support businesses but not to force them to comply with local rules about the environment you should also vote for them
you've got to give some incentive for people to build the businesses that actually do stuff. it takes time and money. and the inventors who come up with the idea have a right to some royalties and whatnot. the problem isn't the fact that patents exist at all, it's just that the patent office is doing a terrible job granting software/internet related patents.
Think about the paranioa of genetically modified food
"Paranoia" is a particularly appropriate word choice.
actually there is a very good reason for concern. i certainly feel it is something to study, but the effects of widespread growing of organically modified plants is unknown, yet american corporations pursue willynilly, with absolute disregard for any consequences. its like pest control chemicals, everybody thought they were great at first, and it wasn't until they were everywhere that people started realizing the problems they were causing. now i certainly believe genetic engineering is a better solution than using toxic chemicals on foods we are going to eat, but its still not the end all be all answer to growing food and it should be closely monitored by somebody other than the corporations selling genetically modified seed.
everything you talk about is an issue of the transistor, whereas the lithography is a production solution to the moores law problem. there is a lot of work being done on the interconnect problem by looking at different materials. the leakage and power problems are afaik more problems that will have to be dealt after the introduction of electronbeam lithography. im not a device guy so i dont know what the biggest practical problem that will face chip makers is, but my guess is that its the power problem, regardless of lithography used. (even now its getting to be a problem)
actually, what i am saying is that a 'deeper underdstanding' of anything other than a corporations market has no value to the company. and whats your definition of long term. in a fast changing market, how long can you realistically plan for?
1 A deeper academic knowledge in the field of economics
2 Increased marketability of goods to consumers
3 Increased corporate revenues
how is increased revenue only ranked number 3. a corporation, by definition is concerned with only one thing--its bottom line. number 2 only has value as it is concerned with number 3, and similar with 1, which, unless it does relate to number 3, has no value whatsoever. by law, a corporation which does not maximize its profits is ripping off its shareholders, so unless this practice in some way can be used to increase revenue it has no value.
i bet this study was around older scientists. i wonder what they would find in a study of 20-30 year old tech/science types. i would guess much more nonbelievers
they dont lower the price. they wait until they have such a large market prescence that the market no longer operates as an ideal free (capitalist) market. they can do this especially quick by buying competitors and using the walmart technique to put everybody else out of business. then they can start raising prices although supply hasnt changed, since they control the flow of products.
reply yea but they have to drive it across the country to bury it there! and st. louis, a major railway hub and one of the towns its supposed to go through, voted against it. so sure you want to bury it in the desert, but how are you gonna get it there?
yea as long as the nuclear waste isnt stored in your backyard, right? lets just put it in areas with low property values. sure people live there, but hey, fuck the underclass!
what if it was all a big conspiracy and they were just tricking us into thinking our votes counted? better yet, what if they tricked us into believing that they are for anything other than supporting the rich individuals and corporations who support them and pay the money to get them elected? would a million people die for that vote?
or "Don't throw your vote away on Nader. Throw your vote away on Gore."
notice how the 'swing voters' who voted for perot affected the republicans stance this year? i wonder what the people who vote for nader now will mean the next time...maybe economic justice as a major issue? lets hope so
but if you are an anarchist or somebody who at best believes this so called democracy is a crock of shit but dont agree with the third party candidates, what better way to use your vote than to try and fuck up the system?
every company i interviewed with while job hunting (earlier this year) involved two interviews, although in a couple of cases the first interview was a phone interview

actually the problem is to get nanomachines to last long enough to do anything

although it does massive damage to the neighboring ecology
