i think the problem is probably more related to the fact that there are a lot of stupid people writing software, and it only takes one stupid person on a team to make the end product crap. also in business software you have people buying software that their employees use. the managers don't use it though so they ignore bugs and buy based on features, then software companies compete based on features, and you have crap like mentor graphics stuff (well its not really crap but it could be better if it had less features and more stability).
the fsf encourages you to use apache, zope or software released under similar licenses. they just don't encourage you to release software under the same license because of the advertising clause.
ms labels opensource as 'unamerican' at the same time they wants to import workers into the country. the whole article was just ridiculous. why should government be involved at all i wonder. maybe he wants government to enforce ms licenses but not the gpl. who knows. the guy just made a bunch of wild accusations, he was probably drunk.
apple = turin, felled by their own pride, tried to come back, make things right...but again pride took over and in the end they lost. what would the simarils be?
thanks, i never realized how rosy things would be for those workers in the rust belt without the union. they would probably get paid a lot more and get better working conditions, because the corporations would feel sorry for them and feel guilty about making all this money. i bet there would be ping pong tables in factories if it weren't for unions.
i've always called what you call assemblers compilers. they're no different from what you call compilers. they're going from high level language to low enough to run. and how come it doesnt even say what hardware the compiler is for? assembly languages differ.
what do i need gnome for at all then? this is what i can't figure out, does it provide things like cut and paste or something? i'm not much for gui's so i don't know all the 'technical' definitions of wm and 'desktop environment'. other than applications and window management, what is it in gnome or kde that you have to have in order to have a 'fully functional' (whatever that means) gui desktop thingy?
why bother responding if you know its a troll. besides that isn't a good 'old style' troll, everything is spelled correctly. if it was truly up to the old standards, akkerman would have been misspelled ackerman or something.
how are you giving up your privacy by going to a school? by buying something are you giving up your privacy? only if you sign an agreement that says so. so why should you be forced to give up your privacy to go to school. should the everybody be forced to give up all privacy?
i personally think kde is ugly. i don't like start bars, buttons, etc. what i would like is to not have to use either gnome or kde. just e to manage windows. what does gnome or kde add other than being a wm?
anybody is 100% free to include gnome with any distribution or whatever they want to give or sell at any price. they just have to include the source. some people will pay for gnome, some people won't. if you want non free software ximian wrote you would probably have to pay for that. the choice is up to me to decide what i want, not to ximian, not to redhat, not to richard stallman.

the vi/emacs debate. of course they will probably remind everybody that the dos editor is best.
it should have been settled by duel. duh.
i was amazed he kept a straight face while wearing the hat. that in itself made me like red hat.
better yet he would have said i will agree to disigaree. or maybe disagigaree.
windows makes me 'loosen' my mind.
ha, ha. please don't moderate this as funny.

nobody cares that you don't care. if you don't care, don't post.
the government has no right telling me what i can do with somebody elses creation. especially with regards to intellectual property.
$10 or $20 a year from 100 000 users would be more than enough support for a staff of under 10

what about the sword that killed turin and beleg (and many orcs), anglachel. would that be the gpl?

he was confused, it was really ascii art, he just thought it was perl code.

it's not dead. it's just not going to be free.
