Am I the only one whose skepticism level is instantly raised when a politically lobbying organization includes the word "Mom" or "Mothers" in it's name?
I'm going for damage to the country, I really don't care either way about damage to the political parties. Public sector unions have bankrupted two of the largest states (CA and NY) in the Union. By contrast, the Fundies have failed most of the time they've tried to enact their agenda -- creationism went down in the courts (both legal and public opinion), elective abortion is still legal, gay marriage is progressing, etc, etc, etc.
I don't see any problem with the death penalty being applied for treason, espionage, rape or kidnapping. In fact I would argue that the first two are more worthy of the death penalty than simple homicide.
How about the fact that DoD was so infested with political correctness that it ignored the warning signs regarding a Muslim service member whom later went on a shooting rampage and killed over a dozen innocent people?
There's also Comedy Central's hypocrisy -- they allow South Park (and Jon Stewart to a lesser extent) to rip every other religion to shreds but refuse to allow them to do the same to Islam.
Holding right of center political viewpoints does not automatically translate into being opposed to logic, technology and science. There are numerous people in this country that hold right-of-center views that aren't members of the religious right you know.....
Ever read about Saburo Sakai? Japanese fighter pilot during WW2. He mistook one of our bombers for a fighter and dove right into the firing arc of the rear gunner. Took a.30-06 to the head. Not only did he survive but he was able to fly his plane back home, land and give a report to his CO before being wheeled away for surgery.
It's really amazing what the human body is capable of.
I'm dead, why do I care about the clean up crew?;)
In fact, my goal would be to leave as big of a mess as possible. If I hate the world enough to take my own life I don't see any reason to do it any favors by taking my life in a clean and orderly fashion;)
and I'm not even American (as you can no doubt tell from my spelling).
You are correct. The fact that you spelled all those words properly instantly gave you away as someone who didn't go through the American public school system;)
In the "morbid topic" department, I've contemplated how I would exit this world if I opted for suicide (and no, I'm not suicidal, it's just a great morbid topic) and I've concluded that firearms are the only real way to go.
Drowning? That won't do. Takes too long and involves too much panic.
Burning? Nope, same drawbacks as drowning.
Pills? Thanks but no thanks. Who the hell wants to commit suicide and then have time to think about the fact that they are going to die? This same drawback applies to leaving the car running in an enclosed space or slitting your wrists in the bathtub.
Hanging? I could see this one if you had the time and materials to build a real gallows that would snap your neck. But dying via strangulation? Yuck.
Nope, the firearm is really the only way to go. It requires true commitment (gotta squeeze that trigger) and doesn't provide much room for second guessing yourself. It should also be relatively painless unless you flinch at the last second. Added bonus: Nothing says "fuck you, cruel cruel world" quite like the mess that a headshot leaves behind;)
I wouldn't trust a.22LR to get the job done if I was bent on ending my life. The only thing worse than deciding that suicide is the best option is undertaking a suicide attempt and winding up as a crippled vegetable that can't even wipe his own ass. Large calibers are the only way to go for a meaningful suicide attempt.
How about you do your part by buying a cheap.22 caliber pistol and blowing your brains out?
.22's aren't really effective at "blowing your brains out". They often tend to penetrate one side of the skull but bounce off the other end. This results in effective brain scrambling but little to no "blowing out" as the term is classically understood. If you want him to blow his brains out you should suggest that he purchase a.357 or.45;)
You call those lurid details? Pathetic. I won't be living vicariously through you anytime soon;)
How big were her tits? Where did you meet her? How many drinks did you have to buy her to get into her into the sack? Was she less attractive when you woke up sober the next day? Did she have any special moves that you hadn't encountered before? How many times did you do it? Bareback or safe sex?
Inquiring minds want to know;) These are the important details that just can't fit into the limited space of an SMS or tweet.
So you can text your best friend the lurid details of your latest sexual conquest.
If you can fit the lurid details of your latest sexual conquest into 160 characters then it probably wasn't all that impressive;) Besides, everybody knows that those conversations need to happen over a pint of beer....
Actually it really doesn't. Old fashioned cordless telephones were rarely encrypted but it was still a violation of Federal law to monitor them. It was also made illegal to sell scanners that were capable of tuning to the frequencies that they used.
We have employer issued phones at our workplace with unlimited plans. Making personal calls or sending texts during non-work hours does nothing to change the final bill, so we've been told to use them for our own personal use as well. We're required to have the phones & be "on call." Why would I want to pay for a second phone I don't need?
Technically your employer is supposed to figure out the percentage of business calls vs personal calls and either bill you the difference or include it on your W-2 as a taxable benefit. Few employers actually bother to do this but it is required by the US tax code.
As for "why" you would want to pay for one, I think the headline answers that question. If you value your privacy then you should be willing to pay to ensure it. If employers can monitor your text messages why not your voice conversations?
No, the Government only compels them to keep the pen-register data, i.e: who you called/texted and when. I am unaware of any law or regulation that compels them to retain copies of the actual messages. If you have a citation for such a law in the United States I would be most interested in reading it.
-1 factually incorrect. All GSM transmissions are encrypted. CDMA transmissions may be encrypted but even without encryption are pretty hard to intercept -- they show up as noise unless you know the pseudo-noise sequences used to encode them.
I'm more worried about the fact that the wireless company kept a transcript of the text messages than I am about the fact that some municipal government kept a copy of them. What legitimate purpose is served by a wireless provider retaining copies of text messages that have been successfully delivered to the end user?

Spare me the nitpicking. You asked for examples and I provided them.

It has been said that Democracy is the worst form of Government, except for all those others that have been tried from time to time. -Churchill
One could make the same claim about leftists and public sector unions but there you go.

No, I'm well aware of that particular issue. It cost Barack H. Obama my vote and my campaign contributions.

SMS is broadcast over the air unencrypted.

Now why would you go and do something silly like pay for your own phone service when you can get the taxpayers to pick up the tab instead?
