Fair enough... I especially like this quote "Can be used for skypointing, projection on low clouds, signalling, detecting explosives" -- maybe he was just trying to detect some explosives on the plane. Also, the range is only about 2 miles. This all assumes he didn't go with a more powerful laser from a discount supplier.
I highly doubt that ATMs actually record which serial numbers were dispensed. I know for a fact that my teller doesn't type this information in. The idea that "they" can track a small bill after it's been made into change multiple times at multiple stores is absurd.
Too bad 80GB often means 80*10^9 bytes, not counting FS overhead... he's screwed. I'm waiting until I can have my full collection portable in a lossless format. It also has to have SPDIF out.
Kinda reminds me of a Cablevision commercial where they tout the benefits of "high speed online". As in, I gotta get me some of that high speed online.
You're not guessing, you're assuming. If the drive disappears in the split second between when you write the data and try to verify it, then the best assumption is that the data never made it.
I didn't know about the tab set bookmarks. However everything else sounds like it should be incorporated into the window manager/task bar functionality. I know XP will group programs in a similar manner (although I don't know specifics since I don't run XP).
I agree -- my comment wasn't really insightful per se. But it was certainly correct. A lot of replies read way too much into my comment. The simple truth is that shifting the tax burden at a federal level has a measurable impact on state and local tax decisions. The original parent was saying that local tax burden is "completely out of [the President's] control". That is simply NOT TRUE.
Will someone puleeese explain what's so great about tabbed browsing? Do I really need another mini window manager inside of my application? And for most Windows users moving away from XP most of the tabbing is already done by the task bar. I like Firefox as much as the next guy. I seriously entertain the idea that I'm missing something here. Something BIG. So tell me.
Bullshit -- Bush's tax cuts for the wealthy reduced the amount of federal money going to things like schools, etc. This in turn raises the local tax burden.
Seriously! Once in a while I feel like just saying "Fuck it! If the poor slobs in the middle states want to give me their tax cuts in the name of 'values' then I guess I'll take them!" I hardly need a tax cut, but my sympathy for the downtrodden is seriously hampered by the fact that they are so easily manipulated to vote against their own interests. Yes I realize that I am making sweeping generalizations, but like I said: I feel this way "once in a while" and for a short period. Then I come back to my senses.
Some people don't tolerate medication well. Not to mention the toll on your liver... If they could get these cats to not SHED I'd happily take them to the barber every so often.
you are playing with fire. I would hope that we'd understand that kind of fire before playing
Is that the same kind of fire we as a civilization harness on a regular basis? You know, lighters, camp fires, rockets to space. Now that's FIRE, baby!

Well, this was a $100 laser... not exactly your average keychain laserpointer. Also, the plane was on approach.
Usually the no-power state for an LCD monitor is transparent. It takes more power to darken the screen.
Reminds me of Maddox

well if we're going to be nitpicky, might as well point out that it's really just 40 * 100 BITS.

No, it's a fluid... and your link is borken.

Duh... error checking? It's a good idea to verify written data on a piece of crap medium.
That's it, you people stood in my way long enough! I'm going to clown college!
Since his daughter is clearly not of drinking age, alcohol is an illegal drug in this case.

Ok I was mostly kidding, but read this if you want some insight into how hard it can be to fully trust a compiler.

The compiler automagically builds in the vulnerability. They all do that nowadays.

What about downloading tv episodes of programs that you get from your "stolen" cable service, but missed.

But then something will go terribly wrong and it'll be Jurrasic Park all over again!
