....So don't read the papers, don't study the math, just rely on your intuition about design.....
I do study the papers and math. All of them take plenty of thought. It takes much thought and math to design a computer or an airplane. The evolutionist dogma may be summed up by the belief that it took no thought or math to build the universe and especially the complex living systems scientists study with much thought and math. The truths we discover in science are in no way at odds with what the Bible teaches. NONE of the odd ideas that the ancients had about the physical world are recorded in the Bible. In the Book of Job, one of the most ancient parts of the Bible, we are clearly told that the earth is a sphere suspended in space. Also in this book, a careful distinction is made between physical objects and a form of energy, namely light. Long before astronomers learned that the stars in the constellation of Orion are gravitationally bound, we are told of this fact by the One who placed these stars in position. Most constellation of the zodiac are not gravitationally related. God told Abraham that the stars cannot be numbered by man. Before telescopes were invented, this was thought to be wrong, since stars visible to the unaided eye can be and have been numbered easily. Now of course we know this is true. Millennia before Moury charted the seas and discovered ocean currents, we are made aware of this fact in the Bible. How did Moses know that the blood clotting factor of a new born is at its peak eight days after birth when he received the commands from God concerning circumcision? We are told that the early earth was completely covered with water. Today, geologists cannot find a square centimeter of this planet that was NOT under water at some time. If the earth were perfectly smooth, the oceans would uniformly cover it with a depth of about 5000 feet. Archeologists have also never dug up anything that contradicts the biblical record concerning the activity of humanity on the earth.
The purpose for which God communicated to mankind in the written word of the Bible was not to teach us science, but to tell us of His love. Nevertheless, wherever it touches on anything scientific, it is error free. The biggest conflict between evolution and the biblical record involves the element of time. Einstein tells us that time not an absolute quantity and is still mostly a mystery to science.
.....I'm cynical enough to think that if it's there, it will be used.....
What does cynicism have to do with that? It's just human nature that guarantees that it will be used. it doesn't really matter who is in power. No government ever GIVES human rights, they only take them away, just like they do with your money.
All this monitoring of course would be a lot harder if every byte of data any computer ever sent out on the internet would automatically be encrypted. I understand that there are still some forms of encryption that are be resistant to even the kind of processing power mentioned in the article. There is some money to be made by the first person to come up with a simple, powerful, universal encryption program that works for all data and all computers or computer like devices.
So then how did they survive since 1984 when there was no ipod? Most people on/. don't seem to understand that the OS and its software is the soul of a computer. The hardware is irrelevant. If Apple sold you a Macbook Pro without any Apple markings whatsoever and had Windows installed thereon, you wouldn't be able to tell who the hardware maker is. Mac OSX with its software makes a far superior computer, regardless whether Apple or some other reputable manufacturer makes it. However, OSX will remain irretrievably wedded to Mac hardware, at least as long as Steve is still alive and running Apple. The fact that Apple hardware can run Windows is nothing new. I have been running Windows on my PPC Macs for years. That will continue, except without the processor emulation slowdown. For certain simple business apps which have no Mac equivalent, that has been perfectly acceptable. Windows users who have hesitated to switch to Macs because they have a few vital or favorite apps that won't run under OSX, can now safely buy a Mac and be assured that these Windows only programs will still run. Companies who now run Macs and other PCs can now standardize on Macs and still run their legacy programs, as well as OSX and lots of free UNIX type software.
....I think the phrase "experimental proofs" is the give-away that you don't actually have a clue.....
I do have a clue in that man made structures are the products of minds, so there is no reason to assume that the much more complex natural world came about by some nebulous processes that do not involve the evidence of thought, arising in a mind. We can argue about the details and the math and all that, but for me it takes more faith to believe that a structure, such as the eye came about by anything other than careful thought and knowledge, any more than a video camera did. Both were DESIGNED very carefully, with a certain knowledge of the laws of the behavior of light.
If you want to believe that everything came to be without any thought at all, you may do so. I must say that your faith is greater than mine, as I do believe in a creator God which makes more sense.
.....The same is true for relativity, quantum theory, and every other branch of science.......
Real science has repeatable experimental proofs or evidences and mathematical equations to describe how things work TODAY. Einstein's and other's formulas have been spectacularly demonstrated. NASA uses the exact laws of gravity, inertia and motion to repeatedly send up satellites and various space missions.
Evolution has not a single experiment or mathematical equation of how simple things organize themselves into complex systems. Show by experiment or mathematics how a reptile becomes a bird. Show the math of how atoms assemble into protein structures. All man made, as well as all God created things, especially living creatures contain within them large amounts of information. The atoms themselves, the airliners and amoebas made from them have a structure and therefore contain varying amounts of information that determines that particular structure. In the case of airliners, the information that determines its structure arose in the MINDS of a large number of human beings. Evolution cannot show the origin of the laws of nature nor the source of the information contained in everything that has a definite structure. Show how information arises from chaos.
Evolution is therefore lacking at its very core and is the modern secular religion that obviates the necessity of a creator God to whom we humans have a responsibility to and whom everyone, whether he/she believes it or not will come fact to face with. The Bible states it very simply: "And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment (Heb 9:27)" Just as the first part of this sentence is true, so also the second part. You WILL die, and after that face the God of all creation.
.....If you want to subscribe to a literal (and, I would say, unsophisticated) interpretation of Genesis then you will have a problem with evolutionary biology, but you will equally have a problem with geology, cosmology, linguistics and all the other historical sciences.....
The studies of origins ultimately always trace back to the God. Supposedly, evolution operates by certain laws, including, but not limited to the laws of physics. Again, just as in human laws, there must be an originator of these laws, a lawgiver. Evolution is an attempt to explain our existence and that of everything else apart from God, not to disprove His existence, but to show that He is not necessary to explain nature and its workings. Proving or disproving God cannot be done. You either BELIEVE in Him or don't.
Every paper or article I have ever read from those who teach evolution always contains many words that express uncertainty. Some of these are faith words, such as, "it is believed that...", "if we assume...", "it appears that...", "it could be...", an other expressions like these. The implication seems to be: We believe that these bones are (fill in the blank) but we don't really know for sure. In contrast, nowhere in the creation account of the Bible, nor anywhere else therein are these uncertain weasel expressions applied to the actions or commands of God. The expression "Thus says Jehova" and similar phrases are either true, in that God really said: Thou shalt not...., or He did not. You never read constructions such as "It could be that God said or did this or that, but maybe He did not. The first verse of the Bible: "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth" is either true or not. There is no maybe or other doubt expressed, although you and others may doubt the flat statements and commands of God.
.....Amoebas reproduce imperfectly, and are therefore evolve. Airliners don't......
The question still remains -- where did the first amoeba come from. By your reasoning, if airliners reproduced, then they were not designed by intelligent engineers, but just sort of came to be somehow. Anything that reproduces is therefore NOT intelligently designed! In computers, there are programs that reproduce themselves, so they evolved, but were not created in someone's mind?
The cornerstone of evolution is that everything, especially living things, came into being without the input of, or the activity of a mind. There is either is a mind behind the natural world or there is not. Religion, based on faith tries to explain how things came to be. Unless this mind somehow communicates with us humans, there is no way for religion to learn more either. Th Bible claims to be the communication from this One, the Creator God, to mankind. The opening sentence of this book states who the originator of everything is. You may believe this or disbelieve it, but there is no way to prove or disprove it in a scientific manner.
......That said, the problem - since the beginning - with Evolution is that fanatics have tried to use it as evidence that there is no God. ID is a social manifestation of Newton's Third Law, where the fanatics on the other side are trying to prove there is......
There is no way to prove or disprove there is a God. Evolutionists tend to be largely atheists and try to clothe their beliefs of origins in terms of mechanisms that do not require the operation of mind. They make a vast gulf between manmade and natural systems. Manmade, complex systems such as airliners, computers and automobiles and all other manmade objects are of course conceded by evolutionists to be intelligently designed. However, far more complex, natural living systems, such as the human body/mind/consciousness, or even a "simple" one celled amoeba, came into being without the operation of any intelligence whatsoever. This immense dichotomy is of course necessary if the evolutionist faith based assertion of "there is no God" is to be upheld.
ID/creationism postulates that natural living systems show as much, or almost infinitely more, evidence of design, than any human produced object. This makes more sense to many who have not been brainwashed by the evolutionary pseudo scientific education establishment. However, there still is no way to prove who or where the designer of these natural systems is. The assertion that there is a God is also based on faith.
Conclusion: All theories of origins are based on faith and should be studied in religion, history and philosophy classes and not be pawned off as science in the same league with physics, chemistry and other hard experimental real science.
...... science DOES in fact have a great deal to say about the folly of the worship of such an untestable entity......
Maybe the BELIEF in evolution does, but not real objective SCIENCE. Science cannot prove or disprove any belief in the supernatural, because, by definition, science is confined to the NATURAL world only. Man has always been and still is incurably religious. Science cannot explore the existence of God, the devil, ghosts or any other beliefs in the supernatural, because these are all based on faith only.
..... The sun is responsible for "global warming"....
That is in fact the truth! Solar output has been if fact observed to be rising for the last 150 or so years. It has been accurately measured by satellites for about 24 years now and they too show a steadily rising output. There re many places you can google this.
The Bible has many prophecies concerning the times of the end. Some of them have come true in our time. Some of them have the possibility of coming true only now, because we have the means to keep track of people and their money, a capability no human authority ever had until the advent of our modern technology. Jesus talked of a time of such horrible trouble coming upon the Earth, that nothing alive would survive, save for God's intervention. Exploding a sufficient number of nuclear weapons could certainly threaten all life on this planet. Since this thread is (once again) about global warming, there is something written in the Bible concerning this as well. Nobody has ever proved the Bible wrong in its historical writings. Some of that history was written down long before it happened.
Isaiah 30:26 The moon will shine like the sun, and the sunlight will be seven times brighter, like the light of seven full days, when the LORD binds up the bruises of his people and heals the wounds he inflicted. Revelation 16:8-9 The fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and the sun was given power to scorch people with fire. They were seared by the intense heat and they cursed the name of God, who had control over these plagues, but they refused to repent and glorify him.
When this comes true, someday, humanity will be in for some REAL global warming!
.....But what they actually mean is that OTHER PEOPLE have to change......
Actually, I have bought a fuel efficient car for ordinary driving, such as going shopping. However we also have a BIG 4WD pickup truck for hauling and towing. We live 38 miles from a larger community where there is a good selection of stores.
I can think of 999 reasons ahead of the so called global warming BS to conserve fuel. Half lies are the most believable ones -- always. There is global warming, that's the truth. The lie is that humans are the cause thereof.
.....Entrust uses this directory as a scratch area for doing its decryption.......
Why can these programmers not use a subdirectory in the user's library folder, like most other apps do? Clearly these people did not think at all. I would send such a crap program back immediately, if not sooner. Users should not have to give arcane commands of *any* kind just to get a program to work correctly in ALL of it modes.
.....Showing how thin the "commitment" Americans have to fighting global warming.......
Europeans can say dumb stuff like that since the distances they must drive are so tiny. Driving from Northern California to Mexico is like crossing most of Europe in either direction. That is only within ONE state. It takes 5 days to cross the whole country in a car and that's what my daughter has to do in order to get all her belongings from home to her University she is now studying at.
Sitting in a cramped micro car for and hour or two can be lived with, but it's no fun to be scrunched and bounced for 5 whole days in such a small vehicle. That's why American cars are bigger and more comfortable.
.....Convert to US Dollars and we find that they are paying about $6.50 per gallon over there......
Since the oil all comes from the same hole in the ground, the difference must be the taxes. In the US most gas taxes are earmarked for transportation related costs (roads, transit) and in Europe these taxes are used for general revenue.
..... If more radiation hits the Earth and the Sun is spewing out more heat, shouldn't that also increase the overall temperature of the Earth and can global warming be attributed to this?.......
Of course it can and that is in fact what is happening. Man is NOT the cause of global warming, but it is a consequence of the factors you stated and other natural phenomena. Humans in their arrogance think they can affect the entire globe by their puny activities. We could not affect these natural cycles in either direction, even if we desperately wanted to. Just look at a globe and how much of even only the total land area is occupied by humans. Hurricane Katrina carried more energy by far, than all human activities in producing and using energy. That was just ONE good sized storm of how many? Any given percentage of solar output will have a far greater effect on the earth's temperature than an equal percentage of carbon dioxide increase. Specialized satellites have measured increasing average solar output for the last 24 years. Just doing a cursory Google search shows this. Look at this article:
There was a man named Goebbels who said that if you tell a lie outrageous, enough as well as loud and long enough, the majority of people will believe it. Unfortunately Hitler's propaganda minister was correct in this. Is this not the principle of all advertising? The only difference is that the lies there are not usually quite as outrageous as the one that states that global warming is human caused. The most believable lies are the ones that have some truth mixed in with them. The truth is, there is global warming and the lie is that human activity is the cause.
.....Some applications in these operating systems just don't work properly without silly permissions.......
This often true of Windows Apps, but I know of NO generally used application for OSX that does NOT work properly if run from a standard, non-admin account. Maybe you can list a few Mac Apps that will NOT run properly unless run from an admin account.
That is a major reason why OSX can be MUCH more secure than a Windows box. A standard user can make their own directory into which programs can be installed. If such a program is a rogue, it can still not write access any directories outside of the user's own space. Even so that's bad enough if that nasty program sends user data to some far away crooks. To clean up such a mess, the user account gets wiped and a new one created. Easy fix.
.....it could have x, b, j, or q, m, f, or none of those at all......
Aye, and trying to maintain a few dozen of such machines, even if there WERE no malwares would be a challenge in itself. That's why Linux will never be a mass market desktop system. For Windows and Mac OSX an off the shelf program will generally work without the users having to know the specifics of the hardware or configuration. That is an advantage for getting ALL programs to run. Unfortunately that includes the bad ones also.
If VISTA no longer makes ordinary users run as admin in order to be compatible with many poorly written programs, then that fact alone will make the new OS more secure. It will mean that even in the face of inevitable user stupidity, malware will have hard time totally invading a system to its very core. Users are not allowed to install *anything* into the system portion. In institutional settings, the user is NEVER given the admin password. If the stupid user infects their own account, then that account is deleted by the admin and a new clean account gets created. The user data is restored from a known good backup that automatically excludes any executable files. MS should also encourage home users to make TWO accounts, one for every day use and the other for administering the computer. To modify the system, the user MUST actually LOG IN as an admin. None of this crap of getting prompted for an admin password from an ordinary user account. Such a setup would be a little more painful to use at times, but would be a lot more secure.
....Value is understood in relation to the marketplace, not the "usefulness" of the product......
Don't you think that depends on the product? Some products remain useful for a long time (houses) and others (computers) for less time. It also depends on the person. If the computer still does what needs to be done, then it is still useful. I have a Mac color classic what runs 24/7 as a fax/answering machine. It does that job just as well as well as the latest new devices now for sale. Our G5 Mac can also do faxes, but not answer the phone. I would not burden it with those jobs, since it does other tasks we need done. If the old system still does what you want it to, why replace it?
That's easy -- it's the lawyers. No matter who wins or loses a lawsuit, the lawyers of both sides always get most of the money involved. There are too many lawyers and that's why there are so many lawsuits of of every kind.
You mean different DRM locking, don't you? Do you think the **AA companies will allow DRM free stuff? I hope that France DOES pass their new law and many others follow suit. It would mean the end of all DRM. The companies would then learn that sales are even higher than before. Most people will pay for their things, rather than walking out the door without paying, especially if the prices are reasonable.
.......But I can't do that if the message says my bank account has a problem.......
I'd lay the blame with the banks and other financial institutions for sending out e-mail with links embedded. My banks do not send out e-mails, but send a message when I log in to my accounts. An e-mail from a bank could also be a plain text message with NO links that instructs the customer to log in to their account if there REALLY is a problem. Asking a customer to type a link into the browser or using the bank's bookmark is a small price to pay for safety from phishers. If ALL banks would abide by this simple rule, these crooks would be thwarted. Maybe there should be a law that prohibits businesses from e-mailing log-in links to their customers, although the banks should not need to be forced by such a law. A short text link that the user actually has to TYPE into the browser should be OK.
.....I can't run WINDOWS on a Mac without jumping through hoops and likely voiding my warranty.....
I run Windows on my PPC Mac whenever I need to. It's called Virtual PC made by Microsoft. There is no reason why MS shouldn't make that available for the new Intel based Macs in due time. After all, it'll let them sell more copies of Windows. Be patient and wait a year or so after all of the Macs are running on Intel chips.
......Apple would most likely still have the #1 selling digital music player....
I think that is likely true. There could be a simple, probably not too scientific survey on/. that asks what percentage of an iPod owner's music thereon came from the ITMS versus ripped CDs and other free downloads. If my own music collection on the ipod is an indication, then only 10-12% comes from the ITMS, if that. Perhaps someone has already done a survey like that.
....According to the link below, Apple's marketshare has been cut in half......
Why is there so much ado about market share? How much market share does BMW or Mercedes Benz have? How about Jaguar etc.? Apple is a huge company and is making more profits that the Dells of this world. I just had an iPod die after about ten months. I was told that they would send me a new one and I should return the dead one. I had a brand new one delivered to me in two days. I put the dead one in the supplied return envelope and had no costs whatsoever. That is pretty fast, considering that we live in a rural area. I have been using Apple products since the Mac-Plus in 1985 and this the first time I had a warranty claim or an Apple product die. We still have a color-classic Mac sitting in the corner, that runs 24/7 since 1995 as an answering/fax machine and X-10 programmer/controller. Apple is not perfect, but they get a lot right and therefore have loyal, repeat customers.

The lie is that humans are the cause thereof.
.....Entrust uses this directory as a scratch area for doing its decryption. ......

If the old system still does what you want it to, why replace it?
.....the restaurant serves it's hamburgers on are "Micro Soft".....
I could open a restaurant that sell "Milli-Soft" burgers though. They'd still be pretty soft even though 1000 times harder than the Micro kind.
.....So who wants the money from the suit?.....
That's easy -- it's the lawyers. No matter who wins or loses a lawsuit, the lawyers of both sides always get most of the money involved. There are too many lawyers and that's why there are so many lawsuits of of every kind.
......no DRM lock-in....
/. that asks what percentage of an iPod owner's music thereon came from the ITMS versus ripped CDs and other free downloads. If my own music collection on the ipod is an indication, then only 10-12% comes from the ITMS, if that. Perhaps someone has already done a survey like that.
I think that is likely true. There could be a simple, probably not too scientific survey on
....According to the link below, Apple's marketshare has been cut in half......
