I've only grudgingly moved more and more of my reading to tablets, but now am glad I have; still, I don't like the idea of having my books disappear if I don't pay a continuing subscription.
I see this as a big benefit for people that like to read for entertainment. You aren't paying for the actual books, just access to them. For light reading (entertainment purposes) this seems like a great deal.
I'll always buy technical books I want to refer to in hard copy when I can, but I don't need a persistent copy of most of the things I read.
When I was younger I used Ketamine. We would go to Nogales or Tijuana, Mexico and purchase it from "veterinary supply" stores.
One time I was in a shop in Nogales and there were 2 Utah police officers in the store as well. They had been referred to the guy by one of their uncles, also an officer. They were buying horse steroids.
Another Roku owner here. Me and my wife use it for Netflix, Hulu Plus, and MP4's on USB sticks. The remote is very simple and the user interface is to.
And I'm just an end user who owns both Android and iOS devices. When I see the disparity in app quality on both platforms, especially in games, and hear developers explain why Android is so much more difficult to work with I'm going to take it at face value.
Mobile games are popular because they are time fillers. If I expected the same quality I get from my PS3 or PC when I play an ipod game I'd be severely disappointed. I don't though. I just appreciate the ability to whip the device out and obliterate dirty pigs or slash monsters and fruits with my fingers when I'm waiting at the doctors, dmv, end of my lunch break, etc.
Let's put this in perspective: Has anyone ever accused Nintendo of sabotaging their console market with their Game Boy/DS products? No?
Well I don't see why Microsoft, Sony, or Nintendo should be worried about Apple then.
I can understand why it is desirable for the actual construction or possession to be illegal, but when I'm told that the knowledge and ability to do so should be banned as well, I don't agree.
Even if someone comes up with a reliable design using consumer grade 3d printers, they will still be crap compared to what we create with metal. If someone wanted to create an effective home made arsenal they'd be better off building a machine shop. Are we to start restricting lathes, drill presses, and the like as well?
I get the bogeyman of easily obtainable guns in any society with strict gun control but the reality is:
$20 + A "home improvement" store + (Optional, helps for reference) internet access = gun.
I found their proposal interesting until I considered whether my television was a new machine every time the program changed. Computers are machines that host multiple other machines within them. I think it's more accurate to call a program a machine in itself.
Like if someone commits a crime with one of your printed guns you share the charges.
So, if someone borrows your car, accidently kills seven people, YOU should be brought up on seven counts of manslaughter alongside your (presumably ex-)friend?
If the primary purpose of a car was to kill things I would say yes, you should be. The problem we have in the US isn't just ownership, it's attitude. Careless handling, and therefor accidents, could be reduced if everyone who bought a gun learned to respect it and be responsible with it.
And everything you claim to have learned on was outdated when I was a fucking teenager. I have a really hard time believing that this "old school" computing world is what you grew up with.
You just sound like a computer "hipster" to me. Come crack open a PBR with me and relax.. you don't have to try this hard to be different. As someone who has done production in many industries, please let me reassure you that we wouldn't have adopted today's tools if they weren't better than yesterdays.
Your mashup of what would also be considered old (social networking) and new (Win 8).. oh fuck I just convinced myself this was a troll submission, fuck off.
I can see a government viewing this as a way to probe mail security. Imagine if I'd sent the same video box to my Senator; maybe even with a GPS unit inside and broadcast ability. That would allow me to figure out how Congressional mail is sorted and secured. They wouldn't be happy about that.
I imagine you'd know where the most strategic place to bomb the mail sorters is, because i'ts not going any further then that.
If they had refined it and geared Metro towards being a Kinect compatible interface, instead of touch, and made it optional I think they would have had a hit. Or at least a not-a-turd!
I've seen this news elsewhere and Slashdot was the first place to call it a science experiment. I guess it could be, in the same sense as a Diet Coke & Mentos experiment or an "effects of flour on your best friend's head" experiment.
What's being done to her is completely ridiculous and she deserves nothing more than maybe a nasty look and a mild talking-to, but let's not stoop to yellow geek journalism
She mixed compounds together to observe the reaction. What about that doesn't sound like a science experiment?
I had the same thought. I'm sure they pay out of the nose for these package, why not insist they be customized to the preferences of the astronauts going on the trip?
A good rule of them for going into a dangerous environment is to get as much shit done as you can outside of it. If things are so strange up there that it's best to precook all your food I think premixing your flavored beverages is worth the effort to.
That's called 'transfer of firearm' and is illegal in many places thanks to our politicians. Creating technology to circumvent the law sounds like a sticky place to go.
I don't use MSE to protect my PC from 0 day exploits. I don't consider my online behavior to be that risky, and so far that assumption has held true. MSE is there mainly for the random drive-by attacks that can still happen. Better 0 day detection also results in more false positives, and this is definitely something I don't want when I'm not even engaging in risky behavior to begin with.
Having worked as a shop tech for years my rule of thumb has been that if it's a single user PC and they are a responsible person MSE is sufficient. If the PC is shared, especially with children, teens, or roommates, you should probably purchase a retail product that is more proactive.
I regret the title of my reply. I edited it out of the post, but neglected to review the title.
It's not actually moronic, and didn't mean to insult the OP.
I've only grudgingly moved more and more of my reading to tablets, but now am glad I have; still, I don't like the idea of having my books disappear if I don't pay a continuing subscription.

The sky is blue.
I'd be surprised if terrorists were not trying to infiltrate the CIA.
I'll share a story to back up the OP's claim:
When I was younger I used Ketamine. We would go to Nogales or Tijuana, Mexico and purchase it from "veterinary supply" stores.

That was my first impression as well.
Fragmentation may not hurt the adoption of the OS, but it severely hinders the development of apps.
Mobile games are popular because they are time fillers. If I expected the same quality I get from my PS3 or PC when I play an ipod game I'd be severely disappointed. I don't though. "A new competitor to Google Glass.."
.. where does it compete with Google Glass again? Just because they both hang on my face it doesn't mean they are vying for the same market.
"If you think complaints that Google Glass is creepy have merit, take heart: these aren't for walking around with."
Okay so
But I think PETA subscribes to the "all press is good press" school of thought.
I can understand why it is desirable for the actual construction or possession to be illegal, but when I'm told that the knowledge and ability to do so should be banned as well, I don't agree.

Sleep tight.
My guns are reliable because they are simple mechanical devices. I think this is a horrible idea, no matter how it's implemented.
Like a previous poster said, if law enforcement adopts the technology and it turns out to be extremely reliable I'll reconsider.

There are no penalties for having an unlicensed vehicle on private property, though.

What do so many Americans have such fear/hatred of Socialism?
Because we like to think we deserve to use the money we earn in the way we choose.
From what I have observed from my countrymen this is correct, and until we change the way we view each other we don't deserve better.

Citation needed.
She was asking for it, amirite?
I think he meant the people doing everything they can to maximize profits from content.
