Sweet. I just experimented with Haml enough to be able to write it up in the book. I really like it, though my UI designers have all but nixed the idea of moving to it for our large projects, as they want to work in HTML. Such a shame...
I believe that's called a voidable contract -- the minor has the option to void the contract. It becomes void when that option is exercised.
This is as opposed to a void contract, such as one for an illegal purpose. These contracts cannot be judicially enforced even at the will of both parties.
Apple radically reworked the playback engine for iTunes 7, resulting in major sound quality improvements for MP3 playback
That sounds fishy. The MP3 decoding algorithm is specified to the bit level, within certain tolerances (according to Wikipedia). All of the audio tweaks are supposed to happen on the encoding side.
People seem to be missing the point here -- according to the article, it is not the installs that fail the WGA-check that will be hosed, it is the ones that refuse to install WGA. Thus, MSFT plans to enforce the carrot of regular updates with the stick of bricking your Windows install. Who knows what they might try once they set a precedent for retroactive changes to the license agreement, enforced by threat of the Windows Death Penalty? (Yes, I know that they may already have legal standing to do this through the EULA -- I think they are testing the waters with their users.)
Then again, it could be a trial balloon. The quote is attributed to "a Microsoft technician" and it would be easy for Corporate to deny, deny, deny in a few days.
Agreed! I live in Naperville and attend these libraries frequently (the new one is just SO ritzy), but they tend to have very sane policies. One of their official policies is that parents are the only ones who are allowed to censor their children's reading. The library will not restrict children's access to materials other than based on parents' requests. Generally, they are a very sensible library system with progressive policies.
Wouldn't the only company I would have to give my SSN to is my employer?
Technically yes, but companies still have the right to refuse you service until you disclose your SSN. You, in turn, have the right to bank elsewhere... good luck.:-)
I needed a manual printed (perfect bound - like a paperback novel) last year and went with CafePress. They have reasonable prices--I think I spent $15 on a 200-page book, one copy. Decent quality, but the pages were a little yellow.
Then I found Lulu. Same kind of thing, with a base price of $4.53 per book and $0.02 per page. They do have a page limit of 700 pgs, which would translate into a whopping $18.53. Anyone have any experience with them?
Because the corporate veil does not shield you from negligent or malicious acts on the part of the owners. A court would not take kindly to you setting up a corporation solely to do something illegal and "shield" yourself from the consequences (why we don't have Mafia, Inc.).

They should have patented the process of playing.
Except for the fact that most patents last only 17 years in the US.
