Most people get the local geek to install software. Once installed i doubt very many update their office software or web browser. As long as it works, they use it. Doesn't matter if there's a security hole, they don't know about it or probably don't care either. They just want it to work.
Of course, WHY anyone needs to control their airconditioner from a remote location is beyond me. Leaving it on if you go out for the day isn't that big a deal, since its probably most cost efficient to let it run then let the room warm up and then try to cool it again.
Now those microwaves that get the precise time needed to cook frozen dinners would be handy, since microwaves vary so much.
Ya, and all that can be down without hailstorm. What about the times though when you don't want the police or insurance involved?
Besides, how often are you in a car accident to warrent giving up that much info so the insurance and whatnot can be taken care of more quickly? You must be a pretty poor driver if you need hailstorm to free that amount of time from your life.
Well you have to divulge personal information if you want to say shop online. However i do expect (and i believe it is reasonable for me to do so) that the company will NOT resell my information. I am providing the information so they can bill me and complete the transaction (ie, deliver what i ordered). After that i consider the case closed, and don't expect them to even keep the information. In my mind, the information i divulge should be ONLY enough to complete the transaction. If i go to the store and pay cash, i need to give up nothing.
The illegal part would seem to be that when i attempt to buy a computer without windows, i'm still charged for it. Any thing else i can buy seperatly if i choose to do so. While they do not have to remove the tape, there are other paint sets sold without such a tape. I would hope that the law would not all stores to sell ONLY paintsets with howto tapes. I think the gov't would see something supsicious with that.
Plus, everything about the computer i can fully customize. I can choose any number of cases, motherboards, processors, etc, but i can't choose my own operating system? That seems very odd when your configuration of the computer is as unique as an individual.
So its ok to say if i by X i must buy Y, even if i don't want it? Thats very shaky to me. Maybe i did know that windows came with the computer, but i should be able to say remove it. Knowing that it comes with the computer isn't enough if i do not have the option to have it removed, AND NOT PAY FOR IT.
Did i really choose to run Windows? From what i remember, you not buy a computer without windows even if you didn't want it, right up until the feds launched their lawsuit however. And even if you did get windows not to be installed, you were still charged for the copy you don't have.
As far as the tobacco industry goes; there have been warnings on tabacco as long as i can remember. If they lied before then, yes they would be responsible. If they didn't know...i'd say its neglect, but i don't think anyone thought it was harmful until they reseached it. If anyone had a clue before, i don't think they would have become popular.
Heck, all those lawsuits couldn't destroy the tobacco industry, and they kill people.
The tobacco company doesn't kill anyone. The people buying that shit and using it are killing themselves. The truth that cigs cause cancer has been known for years now; if you are still stupid enough to start smoking, you deserve whatever you get. Plus, no one forces you to buy cigs when you buy something else.
The case against Verizon may end that way as well. Its really a stupid punishment, since it locks the customers suing into buying products AGAIN from the very company they are upset about. Money off products or services should not be allowed as punishment from a class action suit. Cold hard cash, where the company DOES lose millions is the only way they will learn.
Not saying 'you can hand out coupons for discounted phones.' The company wins that way, since any money lost by the coupon is made up for in profits from the service.
Fine, then that particular piece of artwork BORED THE HELL OUT OF ME. Besides being art, a film is supposed to be entertaining. Its hard to mix those two aspects just right. I already have a feeling about the vastness of space; which is why i'd like to see research on how we can move through it as quickly as possible.
I agree on the fact that it was accurate; no sound in space and all. But again, we are talking about entertainment, and watching as there is no sound and almost NOTHING going on isn't very entertaining.
Don't overlook the fact that you can be out there in science today, but in a few years that science fiction becomes fact. Take star trek for example. It takes science where it might go, which makes it both interesting entertainment-wise and also seeing that some of the technology really has come to pass.
Exactly. If they don't want to open thier code and share their hard work, they should not be taking someone elses work without permission and modifying it. If a standard doesn't fit the customer need, let them start from scratch.
The other problem i have with MS is this; they say they are all for interoperability. But only if you use THIER products to interoperate. Otherwise they do seem against it.
Methinks I should dig up my DVD and watch it again soon.
Ugh. 2010 was much better. 2001 was so slow, i wanted to beat my head against the wall. And the first 40mins of the movie are pointless! Then there are the long sequences of classical music playing while we watch a ship SLOWLY crawl through space. Its about as fun as watching paint dry.
I agree. I don't even know why they should be concerned with such matters at all. Getting data stored and retrived as quickly as possible should be the ONLY concern they have.
Actually i'm sure you'd be faced with a lawsuit from disney, say associating thier name with dildos or some such thing. And in the case, i can't blame you.
The point is that MS and other developers copywrite their code. So if anyone one of them say 'you cannot bundle this', you have to observe that.
As far as using GPL'd code goes, i guess a similar anology would be taking someone else's new way to slice bagels and incorporating that into your bagel slicing product.
Now i'm expecting people to say 'all you gpl freaks want all software free anyway, so why are you worried?' First off, i'm sure not everyone that uses the gpl is against copyrights. Second, while some may want all software for free, they might be using the gpl b/c for now it isn't, so they are trying to play by the rules they are currently working in.

Actually the US system makes more sense to me; the first number tells me exactly which piece of the year i'm dealing with. If i'm putting something on my calendar, i go to the correct month FIRST. Then i find the day. The day being first to me is meaningless, b/c i don't know quite where it goes yet. At least, thats my thought process.
While you may not have been spoiled it does sound like your parents are much more lenient then most. Also, while it did seem to work well in your case, i'm sure there are alot of kids out there where this plan backfires.
As far as standing up for yourself goes; well the worst 'bullies' would beat the crap out of you for that, and that would acomplish nothing. I tried, and thats what happened to me. Unfortunatly they were stronger, and so there wasn't much that i could do. Eventually the school (like in my junior or senior year) got the novel idea to kick the worst kids out. They were transfered to another school, presumably one that could crack down on them.
But obviously your experiences are in the minority. I suppose thats why you're getting alot of flak. I'm happy that you were able to enjoy HS and escape it without the torture that most of us went through. But don't ask so suprised when the rest of us complain; i guess it is the same as if you were trying to tell a depressed person who's life has been one mishap after another that life is good and that he should be happy for it.
B/c your HS experience is unique. Most kids weren't having sex at the same age you were (in my HS, anyway). You were either lucky, or part of the small group tht picked on most of the other kids. It is always a small group that picks on the others, so unless you are part of that group, you probably have had a shitty HS experience.
I've found college chics to be much looser about sex then any HS girl i ever knew, i don't have 7hrs of classes everyday; i have only a few hours a day, and i don't even have to go if i don't awnt to. Sure i get alot of taxes out of my paycheck, but you know what, i still bring home far more then i ever could at $5/hr. Not to meantion i truely have the freedom to do anything i want without parents to make it diffcult. I don't even have the stress i did b/c i had to hide things they didn't want me doing.
You must have had great freedom with your childhood and mommy and daddy must have given you everything you wanted. Most of us don't have that experience. The things you did in HS everyone else is doing now that they are out of it. If you can find true freedom or fun in the 'real world', something is wrong.
Well the nice thing about RR is that they do redesign the network every now and then. There was a few weeks when peak time was slow for me, but soon after that vanished. They reconfigured it so that everyone still got blazing speeds.
And in their defense, when i thought it was slow during peak times once, i downloaded a test download thats on thier servers. That still got 150kps/sec, so i suspect it was the servers that was slow.
I agree, HS was the worst point in my life. And things did get better once i went off to college. I hung out with the geeks also, but we never became popular. Well we sort of did a little, i think we were more respected and liked. It was only by a few maybe, but those few seemed to have grown up and realized, well something. The others, well, i haven't heard anything about them, so i guess nothing amounted of them.
My mom always told me also it would be better, andto just keep going, and she was right. That is the best piece of advise you can give your kid at that time. She did tell me when the best time of my life would be; she said it would be college and beyond, and she was right.

Actually he probaly is not following the agreements b/c of the WTO, which i'm sure your country is a member of as well.
Heh.. good troll.

Ya. I have no sympathy for someone that chooses to hurt themselves like that. They chose it, now they must deal with the consequences.

Doubtful, since spam is sent by one individual or company. Having alot of people send one thing is not spam, its the public voicing thier opinion.

Perhaps it would be more fair if MS simplified its license agreements.
Licensing should be simple. I have x number of CoA, and i have x machines with that software. Case closed.
But it doesn't sound like MS does things that way.
