You can develop on a linux system and release something thats not under the GPL. Using a GPL'ed text editor to write your source code does not mean your source code is GPL'ed (nor does it have to be).
Read the constitution. It doesn't seem to like the idea of IP at all, but reconizes that it may be nessessary to stimulate innovation. Thats why patents are only allowed for a "resonable" amount of time. It should also be noted that it starts of, We the PEOPLE, not we the buinsesses. Buisnesses DO NOT HAVE RIGHTS like people do. They have some things granted to them, but by no means do they have a RIGHT to property. Read the document again; it shoulds to me like it grants these rights to PEOPLE.
Ya its annoying; ya it wastes bandwidth. But you can turn it off. i did, and had completely forgotten aol even HAD popup ads. I'm not sure what the point of this lawsuit is; you can turn it off.
VB is in the same state (kinda) C++ is in; it has OO principles tacked onto it as an afterthought. I can write a vb program with no objects. So to say its object based is incorrect (as would be saying c++ is object based).
If someone buys a product/service from a web site locating in the same state, sales tax must be collected. If a purchase is made out of state, i believe a use tax is to be collected, but whats been my experience is there is no tax unless i buy something from a site located in the same state as i.
No, he does. And yes, MS has been known to do that. Several vendors (including dell) have stated MS as the reason they don't preinstall other OSes when presured about it.
No, they don't need a program. Um, yes they do. What good is a library that NO programs use? If that ends up being the case, they completely wasted their time.
Well what i'm worried about is not being able to get to or having the bandwidth of a competitor cut. I don't want my isp to intentially slow down something just b/c they haven't recieved money from that company. That defeats the purpose of the high speed connection in my eyes.
Ya, 'in theory' they are supposed to match part of your income tax (the fed tax, not SS or anything). BUT, they get ALOT of deductions that greatly reduces that amount. So yes, they do pay virtualy nothing.
Plans for a nuclear reactor SHOULD be made available to anyone anyway. Who are we to say who may use nuclear enegry and who may not? There's a reason that mathimatical equations and similar thigns are not patentable; its b/c to keep that information locked up does more harm then good. Copyright has become too far abused; it WAS a good idea; but now it is just something for billion dollar buinesses to use to beat their consumers over the head with; not only they, they are trying to dictate what you are ALLOWED to use copyrighted material for. No longer is it just about copying anymore. Any law that is abused so badly should be repealed. It was also the law in Germany in the 1940s to report the wearabouts of any Jews. Does that mean it was right? Segregation was also law here in the US. Think that was a good idea? B/c something is law means nothing if it goes against natural law. And natural law is that for there to be theif, there must be some LOSS. If you DUPLICATE something there is no loss. I'm still giving the artist credit if i copy an mp3; i didn't say it was MY band playing it; the song will still be call Metallica - whatever...
Please, shut up w/that IP crap. IP is something that was invented by business for business. Knowledge cannot be lost like you are arguing it can. The music is NOT lost, it does NOT cease to exist, nor is the knowledge required to make that music riped from the original artist's mind. I could declare that rain IS the end of the world; if you accept my statement then of course the world is ending if it starts to rain. p implies q. if p is false then q is always true, no matter what. Why? Well it doesn't really matter in the first place since you started with nonsense. We have the idea of material posessions b/c materials are scarce. There are so many foo-bars in the world, so if mine is taken i truely have lost something. Knowledge is not; it is actually infinate. If foo-bars were infinate, they would be free, and stealing them would not be a problem. Their monetary value would be zero. You see? Please forgive spelling mistakes; its late and i'm tired.
Seems to be then there is a problem there. Just b/c one form of 'stealing' isn't as effect as another makes one ok and the other not? Thats pretty shakey moral ground right there....not to meantion the fact that there is no loss in this 'theft.'
Intel is hardly a monopoly. They have AMD to worry about, and lately they've been worrying alot. In fact the only monopoly in the computer industry seems to be on DVD and by microsoft. And believe me, i would love to change the way this country does business...
Advertising...ya whatever. I rarely ever hear of a band anymore b/c of advertising (ie buying slots on mtv or the radio). I very rarely listen to the radio anymore b/c its become such a barren wasteland of utter shit. The only way i hear of bands now are via napster or my friends; don't know where they hear of it, but usually i find out about a band before they are ever played on the radio.
OK, tell me, why would i want to pay for an artist i didn't listen to in the first place that i never cared about? Or more to the point; why should i pay for the label's bad investments?
Ya really. Does he understand the semantics of the english language at all? I guess he doesn't speak very well unless its all be rehersed and written out for him while taping a show for vh1. Was he always like this? Or is he senial? Or was he so at a loss to answer these questions he got really confused. It seems to me from the answer to his first question and part of the second, that he really has no clue whatsoever about what the internet is, let alone napster. Please guys, just retire right now. Gracefully..
the music was not lost though. For the music to truely be lost to someone, they must not be able to listen to it. Like if i take your car, you do no have it. However if i scan your car w/my star trek like replicator and create an exact duplicate and drive that away, what was lost to anyone? Nothing. This isthe same thing.
Well if you can say 'Clicking here' enters you into an agreement, the you can also say 'copying this file.' Really, what is the difference?

Or it could be that MS forbids that vendor to bundle other OSes...
Doesn't mean they haven't done alot of bad. After all, Hitler did get Germany out of economic chaos...should we honor him for that?
Um i don't give a fuck what MS says, i'll do it anyway.
No, they don't need a program.

I assume it would take a VERY long time to encode however...its takes a few minutes for just a few minutes of audio, let alone a two hour movie.
My problem is that i pay 1/3 of my salery in taxes, while buisnesses (which have ALOT more income) pay virtually nothing.

If it sounds just like the cd its cd quality. I don't care if it doesn't record the note i don't hear anyway.
Odd, i think the mp3s sound just like the cd when at 44khz and 128bits.
