How about you drop dead and stop telling people what to do? He isn't "supposed" to do anything, he's free to choose whatever solution SDR he wants, and if that means using Windows, that's his right. Grow up.
No, Linux failed. There's no reason someone should suffer through using Linux when Windows does the job fine as it is. Are you going to throw a hissy fit and cry because more people buy Coke over RC Cola too?
The OP's scenario is not implausible at all. Look up the red scare. or even nazi gemany. Before they could enslave and later murder the jews, they had to know who was jewish.
Why does everyone think that bad stuff can't happen here? Its silly, the whole reason we have a bill of rights and (supposedly) limited government is because bad things WERE happening here.
You want to give total control of your life over to someone you don't even know, and then your only recourse is to simply trust that you won't be abused? How stupid are you?
If you've paid for a movie BEFORE, and not now, you're a "former customer." Your point is rather irrelevent, because regardless of what they did before, they're stealing now.
Which is a nice way to say "I don't want to answer your question, because I'm wrong."
What evidence did we have when we laid down $700 on an original PS3 which was marketed with "OtherOS" on the box that they would remove "OtherOS" later?
Perhaps in that in all of the marketing I remember, that was not an advertised feature. Their current campaign is "it only does everything." Do you think that implies you can use it to make toast? Would you complain when you found out it couldn't?
OtherOS was sandboxed and meant to be secure...
Ya, and? It was a niche feature likely pushed by engineers that thought it'd be cool... but I think its clear Sony never intended it to work as a general computer, much like they don't intend you to buy it to make toast. It was a nice extra, not something that should have driven your purchase decision.
Just because streaming is via dnla doesn't mean it's secure and can't be used to load an exploit into the ps3 by some form of attack.
- Security excuse
True, but they ARE marketing as an entertainment device. Not just a game console, but a media center. So the dnla steaming fits within that. Its not a tacked on feature that wasn't really intended to drive sales.
Just because there's DRM supported in the protocol doesn't mean it stops anyone from playing pirated media.
- Security excuse
No, but its a feature intended to drive sales. The "other os" wasn't.
Really it's not that hard to imagine - if they feel free and safe removing a feature that was on the marketing material - then why not another
What marketing material? At best, I saw an article on a geek site that was excited about the feature. But I didn't see ads Sony paid for hyping up that feature. I don't think it was ever mentioned in any of their ads. More than likely, the site caught wind of it, contacted sony and they said "yea, we're going to enable this too" but it clearly wasn't something they were using to drive sales.
Any port or protocol that allows interaction with the device provides an attack vector to break into it.
Which is irrelevent; if a major feature they DID heavily advertise was removed, people would have a right to complain, attack vector or not. But I never saw one commerical, print ad or heard a radio spot that EVER mentioned "other os."
Removing other os is closer to removing the ability to sync the console time over the internet. Ya, I'm sure some people like that feature, and maybe it was even mentioned in an article... but they never said "buy our ps3 b/c you can sync its time over the internet!"
So she was raped or had sex with someone three years older instead of the two allowed by law? Most rape victims think "statutory rape" dilutes the real horror of rape. I happen to agree, and we shouldn't be calling consentual sex rape.
So... was she actually raped, or was her boyfriend simplye "too old?"
Data may be scarce, but good actors, directors, sound crew, production crew, film, cameras, lighting, casting, editing equipment, and so on are NOT. Just because the final product can be replicated for free does not mean there was not value in putting it all together.
Their business model is brining stories to life via video and sound. If the mp4 you downloaded conatained random bits based off of sunspot activity, you would have little interest in downloading it. But because it contains Avatar, Green Zone, Blind Side, or whatever floats your boat, IT DOES HAVE VALUE, AND IT COST MONEY TO MAKE.
So yes, you're still stealing, even though its really fucking easy to do.
You're right about the use of speed limits to generate revenue, but the worse part is your stuff about 1950s radial tires is wrong. Engineers are supposed to monitor traffic to see what speed limit would put most people into the 85% or 90% percentile. It has nothing to do with the capabilities of the cars, but rather says that the speed that covers most drivers (legally) is the one we should use, because people are pretty good judges for how fast to travel. Look it up.. 85% percentile rule.
The problem then is that states ignore Federal law (which says the only legal limits are the ones found through the above rule), and the kangaroo CIVIL court setup for speeding tickets of course doesn't care. In VT for example, its pretty blatent. The law says limits should be set by engineering studies, unless localities feel like setting it arbitrarly, and oh no non-interstate road can be above 50 no matter what.
Sounds like you brough the wrong device then... which is your problem, not sony's.
What evidence do you have that suggests they might do this? The streaming is via dnla, which has drm built in. Oh, and people actually use that feature.
Please read the article; this has nothing to do with who's computer was used, this has to do with being monitored OUTSIDE work time for posts they made at home.
Its not "can't fire for any reason" it would be "can't fire without GOOD reason." That is, the employee did demonstratable harm to the company in some way (for being as asshole, or simply being really bad at their job).
I think this is a problem with people in general; every company out there employes some kind of asshole, so I don't think we should judge the company on what its employees do in their personal time. We should just what the company does.
Ya, that stuff is assinine, which is why you can block it from showing up. I only see updates people choose to make, not the progress in some stupid game.
but laying out a kid because he's hit another child is not appropriate
It is absolutely appropriate. If you harm or attempt to harm another, don't be suprised when violence is used against you. It is a choice of last resort, but it must be a choice.
Perhaps though your line of thinking is why you needed the US to stop the Nazis from stomping all over you.
While I think the kid deserved it, its hard to argue you didn't assault him. In most of the US, assault can be as simple as threat of force. You physically forced him off the bus, and depending on where you're talking about that may also be consider battery.
Don't get me wrong; you were defending someone else, and in my mind that justifies your actions. But sadly the US is now a bunch of panty wastes that think name calling should be an arrestable offense.
Even if it is a 90 year old man saying when he was 20 years old he had sex with a 16 year old girl
Where do you live that has no statute of limitations?
How about you drop dead and stop telling people what to do? He isn't "supposed" to do anything, he's free to choose whatever solution SDR he wants, and if that means using Windows, that's his right. Grow up.

I suspect its more than five whiney people. Its annoying when pretty much every story is fake.
It was funny when they first did it, clever. Now its just stale and dule. Look at the comments for most stores; below 100, fairly unusual.
If you've paid for a movie BEFORE, and not now, you're a "former customer." Your point is rather irrelevent, because regardless of what they did before, they're stealing now.
To answer your question, I put to you a question.
Which is a nice way to say "I don't want to answer your question, because I'm wrong."

You paid to see it once, but you found the pay-to-buy price too high, and found a different channel to acquire it.
And the fact that you were a customer who later stole doesn't mean you aren't stealing.
Data may be scarce, but good actors, directors, sound crew, production crew, film, cameras, lighting, casting, editing equipment, and so on are NOT. Just because the final product can be replicated for free does not mean there was not value in putting it all together.

I rented the porshe once, but found the paid to buy price too high, so I stole it.

Otherwise you're spot on.
No, but only because you didn't knowingly take the LSD. If you took the LSD of your own free will and killed someone, jail you go.
Sounds like you brough the wrong device then... which is your problem, not sony's.

What makes you think a company wouldn't be allowed to do just that? Its not because its expensive, but its not illegal either.
What makes you think you can't be fired for refusing to sign?
Its also immoral, much like stealing. I fail to see why exempt should translate into "you work AT LEAST 40 hours a week."
Its not "can't fire for any reason" it would be "can't fire without GOOD reason." That is, the employee did demonstratable harm to the company in some way (for being as asshole, or simply being really bad at their job).

Where did it say she was raped?
