  1. Good 'Ol Boys on Would You Add Easter Eggs To Software Produced At Work? · · Score: 1

I hid the lyrics to the theme song to the Dukes of Hazzard in some corporate software once. It is probably still there. I don't work there now, haven't for a long time, but I bet that if you did work there today, if you were to enter just the right keystrokes and selected an otherwise inconspicuous white area of the screen, they would probably still shine with pride. Why those lyrics? Why not? Ha!? Harmless, but my own little sig, I guess :)

  2. I hope they continue on Microsoft Dismisses Xbox Backwards Compatibility · · Score: 1

Well, I for one have been looking forward to more backward compatibility. I hope they don't stop or even slow this down. Considering Nintendo will have its entire library of old-school titles available, ignoring, even partially, backward compatibility seems as though it would be a bad move. I never had an old XBox, and I am looking forward to playing some of the titles I haven't yet. It also immediately builds a catalog of titles up that are available for a system. And what about those people that paid good dough for the titles they bought in the old day? If their old XBox dies, are they supposed to just throw 'em out the window? Hopefully they'll keep moving full steam, to try to reach the goal of making all (or most all) of the old titles have a profile for download.

  3. Intuitive, yes (imho). New? No. on Visual Tour of Office 2007 Beta 2 · · Score: 2, Interesting

The concept of doing away with menus and making the available tools show in a sub-section of its own (what Microsoft here is calling 'ribbons') is nice, but not new.

Autodesk, for example, had a very similar system down pat in 3D Studio Max years ago. I have seen many other apps utilizing this system through the years, and happen to like it.

Of course, shortcut keys via keyboard are often the best for repetitive stuff, but for many re-used commands, it has always been an annoyance to repeatedly have to scroll through ever-lengthening menus to perform simple tasks.

Having a nice layout of buttons available when in a 'menu mode' is a good idea. But it's not new. However, I wouldn't be suprised if Microsoft patents it.... *sigh* (or have they already?)

  4. Why? on Shadowrun Game to Rewrite the SR Universe · · Score: 2, Insightful

Not sure I understand... why would you want to rewrite something that's already so unique and fun? "If it ain't broke don't fix it" must not have sunken into their brains as kids.

  5. M$'s REAL plan on DirectX 10 & the Future of Gaming · · Score: 1

Here's the real plan guys - Microsoft is planning on bundling Duke Nukem Forever with Vista. It will have the most awesome graphics ever, and will provide amazing immersiveness due to being the first game to fully utilize all of the DirectX 10 features. In the game, Duke will walk up to a terminal to check your system's DRM to make sure you can play the next level. Gaming has truly evolved now! Boy oh boy! I just can't wait!

  6. Bring it on! on PlayStation 3 May Play Too Much · · Score: 1

If they are able to cram more into the box, a broader market isn't necesarrily a bad thing! Some will buy it for the games only. Some will buy it for the online capabilities WITH the games, and some will buy it simply for the online 'community' stuff alone. Plus, if their new portal has all the goodies it has been rumored to have, a whole new slew of people will start buying them that perhaps we haven't even thought of yet.

I for one will be getting one. I have been PC only (other than playing friends Xboxes and PS2s) since my N64 - and yet now I am for sure going to be standing there to pick my PS3 up on the first day. Count me as one example of how the gadgets inside will attract people. Whether everyone really knows what all the gadgets are, it won't take long for people in all types of genre to learn what they do. Soon those people will be wanting one too.

    Just my $0.02 X^D

  7. Awww... on Blizzard Made Me Change My Name · · Score: 1

Shame that you can run around with a name like 'ifarted' (yes I saw someone named that) but not 'CmdrTaco'! Sorry dude... but like you said - they're the ones that own the dice.

Guess I can't make that character I was planning named 'CapnCrapn' then. *giggles*
