Most memorable teacher in my case went by the name Fred Hurst. It was him who, in pshysics, tought us the concept of mass very clearly. He took a brick wrapped in masking tape and passed it around the class to test its mass. Then he would quickly swap it for a wrapped brick of styrofoam, same size, and toss it at a student. Then there was the chess club he was in charge of... but thats another story.
Okay, here's a topic that probably has been hashed and rehashed, over and over...
Everyone is griping about lack of an open rating system... but who is doing anything about it? Is anyone creating a real, honest to god, GPL-d content rating system??? Maybe is goes back to the fact everyone wants to code a new CD Player but the important applications arent being created.
This is an issue that won't go away... and since our government isnt very interested in free speech, censorware is probably going to happen.
What we need is an Open Rating System. Here on Slashdot, we can moderate. Maybe having a button at the buttom of our Netscape Browser (when it isnt crashing) that lets us moderate and classify web sites is an option.
Its a simple-minded idea, probably too simple. But I'm offering it anyhow.
In response, a new startup, PenguinOne, has filed for an IPO with the SEC, claiming that they have sold $500,000 worth of penguin sweaters to an unnamed Antartic Consortium. PenguinOne put out an email claiming to be the predominant supplier of penguin-sized sweaters on the face of the earth.
Initial Offering Price for the shares will be $18 - $20 each.
Look, you use GNOME, cuz you like it. I'll use KDE because I like it. And you know what? We'll both be happy. I guess since the teams of programmers are getting along, its up to people like you to keep the flames going.
So why dont you droping the flaming and go code something?
Well, at least he did this after Wal-Mart's NEW IMPROVED STORE went online.
I looked at it today... its less useless than the previous version, at least. However, if you take more than a certain length of time to click a link, you get to start over again. Also, didnt see any Privacy info on their feedback page.
I, speaking on behalf of the slashdot community, would like to be the first to note how glad I am to be represented by idiots such as yourself.
Now that you have this first victory under your belt, why not do even more? You've already proven your qualifications for the US Congress!!!
Now, with that out of the way, what basis do you have for thinking that it was the flames that won this? Why do you think that anyone besides a 20-ish customer service rep read any of these emails?
eToys got publicity out of this lawsuit, and around this time of year, publicity equals money. And who said lawyers didnt generate anything useful?
Hate to bring this up, but how sure are we that AMD chips dont have any identifying features like the serial number? This may just be a thing that could be considered bad publicity.

Okay, as I understand it, LinuxOne has applied for an IPO with the SEC. Now, do we have the right to write to the SEC with our concerns about this?
If so, does anyone know have an address to write to?
Numerically, yes, the shareholder will own twice the stock. Percentage-wise, no real change.
Sounds like a devel (2.3.X) sort of thing to me. Keep in mind this isnt the sort of thing we are likely to see in the "stable" 2.2.X series.

Who are you? What do you want?
(Okay, lame Babylon 5 reference... I miss that show.)
