  1. Wirless... on The Future of the iPod · · Score: 1

I don't understand why they haven't come out with wireless networking on the iPod yet. They ability to use shared iTunes playlists on a given wireless network would seem to expand the usability of both products, and make Apple that much cooler, even in the eyes of PC uzers.

I pay more money for expensive hardware so that I don't have to use Windows. Why would I infect my system now?

Alternatively, if you take a moment to glance outside of your own choice-ridden worldview, you might notice that not every individual (apparently your paragon of value) has the means to decide these things for themselves. Individualism is certainly not un-American, in fact I would say it is the essence of Americanism in the early twenty-first century. I think the notion of self-centered, Ayn Randian greed is as American as apple pie. However, that does not make it a good thing, and I hope that more people will get off their high horses of priveledge and live in the real world, not some preconceived egotistical fantasy.

And if you say you don't want broadband, you'd rather have affordable health care, quality education for your children, or a feasibly sustained social security fund, then you're a communist... errr... terrorist and just plain un-American.

Well, this certainly is reminiscent of the Windows mentality of marketing. These days, consumers want all the benefits of modern technology, without the bother of having actually understand how any of it works. This creates a whole industry of service-related jobs, such as mechanics (or tech support lackies) who, in many cases, do nothing more than a reasonably interested and intelligent owner could do themselves with a bit of research.

  7. Re:What? on Who Needs Radio? · · Score: 1

Sure enough and, for them, the radio remains valuable. But if you are looking at the radio as a conveyor of corporate interest and hype, a move from the air waves to the internet of such manipulative entities would surely increase the quality of the programs these folks listen to. Without the backing of huge conglomerates, radio may be able to regain some of its roots in the spirit of free communication.
