1. Windows is complex: Mac OS X is not?? I'd like to see a comparison of the number of code lines...
2. When a new operating system or service pack is released, there are tons of changes to the functionality isn't that the whole point of it? Doesn't every single OS do that?? I don't get his point here... please enlighten me (sounds like a non-issue!!)
3. WinTel machines use different versions of BIOS: WTF?! So what?? Does this mean that you believe that the iMacs, eMacs and PowerMacs all use the same version? we didn't have the same bios for all macs even in oldworld macs...
4. Some Windows software applications are well written; others take shortcuts: Please explain what you mean by "shortcuts". If you mean a shortcut as in "using a bit of undocumented API" - I agree, most microsoft programs are known to do so.
5. Hardware: there are many hardware combinations... so what? how is that bad? can't i choose what i want? How is that bad for windows stability? If a driver of board X is poorly written, you can exchange it for board Y - I still fail to see how this is a problem -- I thought having more choices was GOOD, not bad... and you can always get rid of your Windows and install a nice 2.6.x onto it...
6. Memory. Not all RAM is equal. Some works well. Cheap stuff doesn't. Hard disks. Same problem: cheap or reliable. Your call Someone enlighten this guy - What stops me from exchanging my powermac G4's SODIMMs with cheapo memory modules? duh...
What a crappy article. He should have calmed down before writing it.
Sorry but I live in Capital Federal and this is bullshit. Not all cables are underground. Did you know that overhead cables are forbidden by law inside of the Capital Federal?
I do not believe Americans are responsible for the state of this country. **WE** are responsible for it, and denying it will only make this country poorer. Start moving your ass and start working for what you want.
Barker: How could you foolish Americans bring the wrath of scorn by mass-chanting the word of wretchedness?! Chef: Aah, yeah. We didn't mean to. Barker: Didn't you realize "shit" is a curse word?! Stan: Well, yeah, but I don't think that "curse word" meant... curse word. Barker: Ha! Leave it to American to think that "no" means yes, "pissed" means angry, and "curse word" means something other than a word that's cursed!!
I think the software is nice and all, but the importance of the article is how the company shapes itself and is flexible enough to change the way they work and produce new tools, especially in 3D, where all the software has such a high learning curve. They are only not scared of changing what their artists use, but they also adapt to new needs. This is an excellent insight as to what really makes Pixar a success! Who can doubt they will be leading the market for years to come? How many of us can say we work in such a company? I think it's up to us to make sure that we apply these concepts to any technological startup we might venture into. - who needs a sig?

Being from Buenos Aires and a former student of the UBA, I can only say that this shows how well a person who actually puts its mind on it can compete with the best programmers in the world. After the economic chaos we have been through in the last few years, only positive startups, against all odds and a corrupt government will save this country from extinction. Note that many of us programmers are working for international projects (as in, programming some of the outsourcing project from the EU or USA) and I am a big fan of the USA - I have always wanted to apply the good aspects of that country to my own. I think we need to start working hard on all those issues, just like the USA did during the great depression. Also, Microsoft is present at the Computer Science Uni, offering free Windows, Office and Visual Studio for students. Note that this is a country where the average computer user runs a pirate version of Windows and Linux is only a word they have heard somewhere. On the other hand, I have met a handful of excellent, worldclass programmers who I'm sure will make a difference at least in their areas.
What is the difference? I have all my important files in my own homedir, owned by my user - so you don't need to be root to fuck my computer big time. I'm sure the same is true for most *NIXes out there and not just mine. - Who needs a sig?
The amount the market declined from peak to bottom: In 1711, stocks in the South Sea Company were traded for 1000 British pounds (unadjusted for inflation) and then were reduced to nothing. A massive amount of money was lost.
...that the article is all about the modules you can use to generate sounds from Perl (which isn't clear if you don't read it - the Nightclub + Perl Programming idea is way overemphazised in the original post...)
...sparked when the cable the PC Speaker was connected to (yes i connected the pc speaker to the sound output!) got detached and touched the motherboard! Computer froze, rebooted but to my surprise it was working fine - used that sound card and computer for years afterwards.
Am i the only one here thinking 4DOS / 4NT? It's really amazing they didn't get to add those features until now. I guess it has a lot to do with the way they see their client base and the usability of their systems. I do hope they choose a standard and keep it, for I have surely went mad in the past trying to port applications / scripts to newer versions.
David Filo is barefoot most of the day... perhaps he could work at Yahoo! if he loses his job? ;)
He is right, but for all the wrong reasons...

No problem! Got $125k?
Talk about ridiculous prices... we'll develop and debug your very own Qt-like libs in Argentina for a mere $125k.,,

Don't know in French, but in Spanish it does.
