  1. Stop dropping so many calves on Need a Job? Move to India · · Score: 1

Offshoring is a problem for us in the expensive labour West because people in the cheap labour every-where-else can do a lot of the things we do cheaper. So how does that happen? The more people there are, the more of them there are who can do any particular thing. However, there is not necessarily any need for so many more people to do those things. So some people offer to do it cheaper. What's the solution? Vasectomy. Tubal ligation. Depo provera. Tightly crossed legs. Lousy social skills. Whatever...stop having so many kids, here and abroad.

I searched for "7-11" and got 89 postings all over India. But they all required pretty high level IT skills.

  3. A Triumph of Literalism on Pop Up Ads in Space · · Score: 1

At last, there will be, literally, advertising "space" salesmen. I'm looking forward to advertising "time" sales scoring a similar achievement...adding a new dimension, so to speak, to the ad game. I just don't want them thinking too much about "air" though.

"I couldn't fly out to look at the laptop and the employee couldn't exactly just send the computer and work from nothing. I had this person seek local help, and after several attempts Comcast still shut down internet service....this is horrendous for the average end-user." What's horrendous for the end user you speak of is not that Comcast acted responsibly by cutting off a spam zombie's access, but that your IT department has not provided adequate support for remote users.

  7. What does this do to probability theory? on Science of the coin-toss: Bias in Heads-or-Tails · · Score: 1

From a dimly recalled stats class: probability theory depends (in part) on the assumption that in an infinite number of fair coin tosses, the heads/tails outcomes are equal in frequency. If in a finite number of fair coin tosses the outcomes are skewed by starting conditions (the side you select as "up" at the start of the toss), that sort of undermines the assumption, doesn't it? If the assumption is wrong, can the conclusions that depend on the assumption be right? Maybe this is why when my kid says "I'll probably be home by midnight", well, never mind.

The offensive message of the rebel flag is indeed that those who fly it are proud of what it stands for; and that ain't barbeque and Eudora Welty. The stars and bars is the battle flag of those who would rather destroy the great American union of states than give up their self proclaimed right to own humans. Descendants of formerly owned people do not want to be reminded either by hooligans or state governments of that past. Conservative Americans, who believe in our "One Nation", don't much care for it either.
