    There are so many embedded applications that do just fine with 8-bit controllers that there is no reason they should dissapear just because something more powerful comes along.

    Actually this bring up a good point. There is a reason why the shuttle and many military aircraft still use 486s. 486 chips are rock solid, They can take far more Gs and a much wider operating temperature than pentiums can. Engineers would love to have the processing power, but they cannot afford to use a chip that craps out at 6Gs at extreme temps.

    As for 486 Chips, I have washed mine in the washer, plugged it in 180 degress backwards until the smoke detector went off and had a 486 based computer fall off the back of a pickup and roll several times and it still worked. Try any of those feats of stoopidity with a modern processor.

    Whats sad is this is a preventable disease. There is so much misinformation going around in africa about the disease that know one knows how to easy it is to prevent it. The most disturbing being if you have sex with a virgin, you will be cured of HIV. Thousands of young girls each year are raped on that information alone.

    There is a distinct difference between preventable diseases and curable diseases. In my opnion we should put more focus on preventing the disease than we do now. Its similar to how the US and other countries are now launching large scale infomercials on smoking. A cure to cancer and HIV would be wonderful one day but we can do something right now to prevent people from exposing themselves to both.

    Over 50% of the .Net libraries have not been ported to Mono and may never be. Mono is pretty cool but until it is fully ported it will remain years behind Java and .Net. You cant compare them like you cant compare java to perl. Java and .Net are very much competitors and will continue to dominate the industry in their niche. Companies need security (as in a future) for their multimillion projects. It took Java ~6 years to self promote. If Mono severely ramps up their efforts, they MIGHT reach the plateau. Java was first to the punch, which is a huge advantage. I would wager my hunting dog that Mono will not overtake java in the next ten years. If MS is lucky and throws enough money at .Net, it has a decent chance.

    You dont see companies developing 5k class projects in Mono, but thousands (if not more) do with Java and .Net. Dont believe me? Go count job postings for programming at Monster in a city near you.

    My city last month?
    60% Java
    15% Perl
    10% C/C++
    5% .Net
    5% COBOL

    I study political parties constantly through books and debates. I am well aware of the Libertarian doctrine. They do consider themselves right wingers in the social sense but not in the "moral" sense. There is a very very big difference. Libertarians have some very different opinions on defense, education and immigration. They are not very compatible with the mainstream right wing. However they can make decent bedfellows in the New Age Big Tent RNC (tm).

    We do. When we are in doubt we also look at the Democratic Parties platform. After reading what each party believes we actually affirm our convictions and spread the word to others. I completely agree with your recommendation as an evil right winger ;)

    Think of it like the TV show The West (heehee Left) Wing. You would think that the conservative leaders would be in an uproar about the "misconceptions" and descriptions of conservatives. They arent because millions of conservatives (even the social liberal variety) see what the Democratic Party believes and practices (through the producers minds anyway) and know immediately they wont vote left. In many ways the West Wing is one of the worst enemies of liberals. I am not saying that this is a one way street. If conservatives controlled the networks and hollywood, we would have caused the same problem and alienated millions.

    Libtertarians have some very interesting ideas that could benefit conservatives, but true right wingers will never vote liberal or libertarion because of a few seemingly important stances.

    This also reminds be of the RNC chairmans comments on Kerry's campaign. He basically said that everytime kerry speaks to moral moderates on moral issues he actually loses votes because he rubs off as too liberal. This doesnt mean Kerry is "stupid or wrong", conservatives just view the political arena is a different light than liberals. The same tactics for politcal persuation do not work for all three parties.
