  1. A most pathetic attempt on Russian Police Seize Kasparov · · Score: 1

at comparing a nation that doesn't hide the fact that it arrests political dissidents, with a nation hosting more political asylum seekers than all other states in the world. Keep trying...

  2. Re:ah the horror of it all! on US Control of Internet Remains an Issue · · Score: 1

"But surely the question is all about politics?"

Probably the best reason not to give this issue any energy.

  3. ah the horror of it all! on US Control of Internet Remains an Issue · · Score: 1

I'll just repeat what many others have already said: don't fix what isn't broke. Do you have a TECHNICAL reason for wanting to change the current situation? Is there some problem that gets fixed once we move ICANN under UN influence?

  4. Re:I know Prince is a scary guy, but this .... on Mom Sues Music Company Over Baby Video Removal · · Score: 5, Insightful
    >Doesn't the guy have better things to do with his time than to send takedown notices for 29-second video clips?

I doubt it was Prince himself doing the searching. Prince is plenty rich enough that he is probably paying someone to do the searching.

Having worked for an online kids entertainment company, I can tell you that part of the job responsibility of the 2 full time lawyers was to scour the net looking for any and all references to their company name and images. Also, no surprise this company was owned by a Scientologist, with all upper management being part of the cult too.

  5. Speak it loud and clear on Greenpeace Admits Targeting Apple Grabs Headlines · · Score: 1

Seems like you've read some Bill Whittle. If not, I highly recommend.

  6. Another great specimen... on Giant Atmospheric Waves Filmed Over Iowa · · Score: 1
  7. So is it fair to say... on Web Accessibility Gets a Boost In California Court · · Score: 1
that the current state of technology does not allow for reasonable modifications to a site to be disabled-accessible? Using a brick & mortar comparison: I'm guessing the percentage of the total cost of an average fast food restaurant to make it disabled-accessible is less than 10%. When that cost is 150%, then we have placed an undue burden and hardship on that business.

I'm all for disabled-accessible sites, but until the technology/standards evolve it is not reasonable to expect sites to pay one and a half times the cost of their site to make it disabled-accessible.

  8. Wear your scarlet letter well on Linux on the Desktop Doubles in 2007 · · Score: 0, Offtopic

Your post is modded -0- right now. I guess personal anecdotes are welcomed on /., unless you're saying something the linux zealots don't want to hear. Sad.

  9. More Triangle! on Self-Tuning Electric Guitar · · Score: 2, Funny

Yes, that's what we need, MORE triangle!

  10. Re:determinism finally! on Self-Tuning Electric Guitar · · Score: 1

I think the piano is the only instrument that doesn't need frequent tuning. Maybe you picked the wrong instrument!

  11. Re:Awesome! on UC Berkeley Posts Full Lectures to YouTube · · Score: 1

Yes, this is awesome. I plan on getting a couple degrees from MIT, and now Berkley, but I'm busy downloading the Transformers. I need another connection.

  12. Mirror - on Rocket-Powered 21-Foot Long X-Wing Actually Flies · · Score: 1

This is what happens when people with too much time and hyper-morality decide to, rather than actually do something useful, break out their mobile pulpit from which they proclaim to everyone else what is right and wrong. Absolute Moral Authority: just quit your quest for it already...

  13. "could" on Online Videos May Conduct Viruses · · Score: 1

"With an untrusted viewer and scripting on, a video could easily launch this attack."

Could, is not does. The GP was simply asking for any evidence (you know, actual cases) of FlashVideo being used as a vector for attack. Two categories: possible attacks & actual attacks. Let's be clear which one we mean.

  14. "evil" on UK Government Can Demand You Hand Over Encryption Keys · · Score: 2, Funny

No need for the sneer quotes, unless you are a nanny-stater who condones this type of governmental intrusiveness.

"This aspect of the law is routinely ignored on Slashdot to try and enhance the "evil" reputation of the law."

I think the law, just on a general level, earns its evil reputation well enough. So they used a condom, but they still buggered you.

from under all these youngsters who, by default, frame every relationship as a parent-child one. No, son, Apple is not your daddy and is not abusing you. There, just saved you all a ton in therapy bills.
