    Wrong. BitTorrent is a protocol.

I don't really follow the rest of the analogy, except it appears you think the internet is some anarchic society where anything goes.

Problem is, without commercial companies, the internet would not have as many features as it has right now, in many different ways. The blade cuts both ways.

  2. Re:Maybe it's just me... on The Commercial Future of Torrrents · · Score: 1

Torrents for commercial files that are charging users for the download? Kiss my butt, unless you are paying me for the bandwidth.

    Your choices now are:

    (a) Scour the internet looking for an illegal copy of a movie and hope there are enough other people illegally downloading it to let you get it relatively quickly.

    (b) Wait for the show/movie to appear on broadcast/cable.

    (c) Rent the show/DVD from netflix and wait for it to arrive in the mail.

    (d) Go to a store and buy the show/movie on DVD.

There is currently no way to get legal, instant gratification for mainstream shows and movies. One option being proposed here is that you have legal access to download a show/movie, at very high speed, in exchange for some money and some bandwidth.

I really don't see what the fuck you people are complaining about. You are exchanging good and services, just like you do in the real world.

I'm sorry you can't download a copyrighted piece of content, for free, legally. Cry me a river.

For a second there I was pissed off at you for beating this dead horse. After all, every single time I read the comments in an article about sex being targeted in any medium, I have to read a so-called Insightful comment about how Americans are so stupid because "we" love violence and hate sex, and gee whiz that's lame. Yes, it is. We get it already. No, there's nothing you can do except wait 200 years for society in America to gradually change.

Then I realized my actual problem was that I was READING THE COMMENTS in YET ANOTHER article about some stupid lawyer representing some religious nutball in a crusade against something that rational people find incredibly stupid.

I really, really have to stop reading these articles because nothing new ever comes of it, it's a waste of time, and it really just annoys the pig.

So, from the bottom of my heart, I sincerely thank you for helping me realize this fact by beating the dead horse one [for me] final time: "Crazy American Sex/Violence Dichotomy." Thank you, thank you, thank you.
