Currently, this is not possible. On the other hand, there are quite a few people who really want to make this work, so it is likely to happen in the near future.
I may add that it this FAQ has been saying this for quite a while now, and I haven't heard much about this on the hurd mailing lists. So don't expect running quake on hurd the next couple of months.
Considering the amount of free publicity transmeta got for free the last couple of days, a alot of people will use the word Crusoe and cutting-edge-technology in the same sentence alot next couple of months.
I can't think of a single newspaper I've read the last couple of days which did not have at least one article about Linus, Transmeta and the revolution of the processor industry. But, then again, I am a nerd and don't read alot of non-nerd-material.
Yes, I also remember that Linus got a honorary doctorate. I believe it was the university of Uppsala, but I have not been able to find with any search-engines. I am quite certain of this, though.
This is pasted from the GNU Hurd FAQ
4.1 Can I run Linux binaries on GNU Hurd?

The last line is IMHO the most intresting of this message:
...We're finally getting the shroud of secrecy lifted from transmeta.

That is news for nerds, trademark-disputes are not. Anyone thinking this is old news please post an URL.

486's was (and is) run by single individuals and maybe small companies - and not heavy industries. IBM's computers are mostly run by larger companies.
I do think heavy industries, for example a Nuclear Powerplant prefer to update the hardware and not only the software while they're still at it.
Talking about what OS will be the leading one in 6-10 years is like telling what the weather is going to be in the year 2013 - impossible.
I most probably wount run Linux in 6-10 years, I will migrate to a much more modern OS - probably GNU/Hurd.
