I appreciate the props but my point was that big government didn't start with FDR. You can go back to Teddy Roosevelt's interpretation of the Monroe Doctrine, Lincoln and his war with the confederacy, "Manifest Destiny" of the early and middle 1800s, John Adams and his Aliens and Sedition Act. The government has always been on the attack, ever expanding since the very beginning. It is noteworthy though that if it wasn't for the GI bill after the war, there would be no American middle class consumerism. It is indeed a government creation. It is critical for maintenance of the grand illusion. But like you said, it is self serving, because without it people would vote them out.

This is my biggest problem with ftp. Is there any way to transfer files without mangling the date info and without having to wrap them in some kind of archive?? Is there a logical reason that to this day that ftp cannot keep it intact? Is there a reason that the date stamp is not contained in the file itself, as opposed to being "metadata"? What is the problem here? File management seems to be as primitive as it has been been since the 70s.
I've always been suspicious of Obama's shooting star status, and no, I don't support him any more than the others now. I fell into the quicksand of charisma for a brief moment, but pulled myself out. I don't claim to know or even really care who the puppet masters are. The presidency has long been a figurehead position. I have basically stated that this election is like putting Nixon in for an 11th term. This is a basically a problem of the electorate choosing to remain ignorant, and more importantly their unwillingness to see past their own self interests. I can say that knowing where McCain stands does not make it any better. That just means you would be putting a known criminal into the white house. Talk about disrespect for the office... I don't believe in voting for the "lessor of two evils". Especially when both are evil. At this stage, I have found that this guy is clearly the most qualified for the job. And you can bet he's the least corrupt of the bunch. I do not care for any apparent support he may give to the democrats. They have proven to be every bit as corrupt as the republicans.
I would consider a great honor that anybody(besides the police) would devote that much attention to me. As long as he spells the name right. You're getting all worked up over nothing. Roll with it. Let's try to stay on topic here. The simple fact is that...flash sucks. It's unfortunate that damn near everybody is using it. We need to make a bigger effort to steer clear. It is spam, in and of itself. It's clogging the tubes, and it makes my machine run dog slow.

Kind of a shame that what you say falls on deaf ears. The whole copyright scheme is what's behind this and is working exactly as designed. It's too bad the drones refuse to understand that this is the base intention of all IP law. However, I'm not so optimistic as your are about the competition winning out as the law simply becomes more draconian to protect the publishers/gatekeepers. People just aren't interested. Don't be surprised when only those authorized by the established publishers are allowed to transmit any information by any means, as what's happening to internet radio. Where even free media must pay a fee to the guy who operates the drawbridge. It's time to listen to the man who said "by any means necessary".
