    They wouldn't enjoy the market saturation they have now. It was piracy that made it possible for Microsoft and Adobe and the entertainment industry to become as big as they are. I'm sure that you know the routine. For them, piracy was free advertising and distribution of thier product.

    That's probably because there are no empirical studies that show that software patents have mainly positive effects.

    Software patents DO have a positive effect. It's just not on software.

    Actually there are some valid issues here. As this becomes wide spread, we will be pumping a lot of moisture into the air, which can increase rainfall a significant amount. If we were to say completely "green the desert" like the Sahara, the increased moisture could make some pretty strong huricanes. Imagine the snowfall on the East coast if the midwest farmland was always soaking wet. The climate changes wouldn't damage the planet itself as much as it would human activities.

    Man, you all are making this so complicated. "Billions and billions" of gallons of fresh, clean water falls from the sky every day, just waiting for us to collect it. Why give somebody like Halliburton a gazillion dollars to produce needlessly complicated machinery when all we have to do is float a very big tarp in the ocean to collect some the rain water falling "uselessly" there.

    If you can use the sun to evaporate water from a container, and then let it condense and drip into another one, you can effectively produce both salt and water for "free".

    If you can use the sun to evaporate water from a container (the ocean), and then let it condense (clouds) and drip (rain) into another one(How about a giant inflatable "swimming pool" floating in the ocean, and run a pipe to shore?)...
    Nature already does this for us.(minus the pool) All we have to do is collect it. If we can pipe oil and gas across thousands of miles, we can do the same for water. If it springs a leak, I can see the story now..."Thousands of gallons of di-hydrogen monoxide spilled into the Arizona desert today, contaminating hundreds of acres of pristine desolation. Clean up operations are under way. It was noted that the plants in the area were growing unaturally fast. "It looks like we'll have to spray the area with herbicide.", said one person. "These damn plants are destroying the view of the dust and rocks.", he said.

    Also, they could construct a dome around the tracks... Though that would cost a lot of money.

    It might cost a lot, but I believe elevated mag lev tubes are the way to go. It could be a light geodesic type of construction. Now that we can dig tunnels pretty fast, underground might be cheaper, but I want a view outside my window. At a potential of 400mph, that would look pretty cool.

    I think there is a study that showed that the human body "prefers" a 27.5 hour day approx. So I believe slowing down the earth is a good thing. I, for one, could use the extra sleep. Seriously, I doubt people have an idea of how big these machines would have to be to have any effect.

    would be good enough for me...preferably before installing the program...That way I can decide how much I want risk my system, or at least uninstall everything manually, if the uninstaller poops out.

    I don't have anything really new to say about it. Lately i've seen some relly good posts that some could consider pretty harsh, but what I consider in the end to be correct. Anything I say would just be redundant and a waste of disk space. Now I just waste it with inane jokes where it seems appropriate(to me anyway). Anyway, check out the threads. I may have slipped something in(I don't remember) but I found a lot of posts that I agree with, and pretty much stayed out.

    Flip this around and imagine that I decide to circumvent the GPL by taking a piece of GPL software and using its source in piece of closed source commercial software. Wouldn't like that now, would you?

    Damn copyright drones love to throw this argument around like candy. It's so tiresome, and it's BS. There is nobody here that has even slightest idea on how much GPL code is inside you average MS or Adobe or Symantec product. (unless, you're a developer there) It's sealed up tight and you would have to "break the law" to find it. Which would mean you couldn't use it as evidence in court. It would be the same as the cops using illegally gained evidence in a trial.
