    Pretty simple. People let them get away with it. In other words, the market will bear it. Not much you can do when that happens.

    I would consider it to be complimentary, or supplemental. It adds to the knowledge base. The more the merrier. There's no need to "compete", or put down the other. Cooperation, not competition will bring about faster progress in most endeavors.

    Then have a reformatting partition on your drive and press f11 during startup to clean everything out.

    That's a bit complex. Why not just run a liveCD then? Cache it into RAM, and it runs very fast.

    About the only thing you'd have to worry about would be a tsunami.

    Not at all. It would pass under you virtually unnoticed. Tsunamis aren't a problem until the water gets shallow. As for general stability, you just need to have enough mass well below the surface.

    If you read the page, the fan is on the northbridge, not the CPU.

    Did read it, didn't note it. I guess all that traffic generates a lot of heat.

    And what's the point of a 4 watt CPU if the northbridge draws more than that?

    They didn't lose control. They gave it up willingly, for the sake of convenience. If they actually cared, they wouldn't keep on voting for the one who can flash the most cash. They would seek out and vote for candidates who aren't so allied with big business. But... it's more convenient to just vote for the guy that mass media presents to them. Then bitch about it till the next cycle, repeat. If they would admit it, they would be on the first step towards a cure. As it is, the 45 year decline will continue for at least four more. There is no end in sight. Australia doesn't really look any better

    Oddly, the telcos start allowing metered access of their 3G networks; no all-you-can-eat plans anymore.

    It's not odd at all. In fact that's exactly what I would expect them to do when there's no competition. Should be easy to see why they want it outlawed. I would like to know how good 3G service is and how much it costs in cities with muniWiFi.
