"We" means humans. I'm an all inclusive kind of guy. When did the Concorde crash? 2000? It first flew in 1969. I believe your fancy office program with tell you that that equals more than thirty years. Well, waddya know? I came up with same result without even having to lift a pencil. Sorry if I sound harsh. But I have the same feeling about over dependence on computers as I did about calculators when they first arrived on the scene. Even the slide rule can be considered a crutch, but in business I can understand the need for speed. In school either do it in your head or write it down. You don't learn math crunching numbers in a machine. I will accept the the visualization provided in these programs can help. But even then, we drew our own graphs, by hand. I actually considered it kinda fun. We made lots of pretty pictures just by connecting dots. Colored pencils were state of the art.
They might or might not have taken the same approach for a light passenger train as they take for the huge diesel freight trains.
Well, I'll be.... I always suspected there were hydraulically driven trains, but until I saw the link, I thought that diesel/electric, or pure electric was the only other way.
I still like the Chevy more. The Prius is butt-ugly:-)
I think they should be forced to use a Cray, or an Eniac. That ought to weed out the riff-raff.
Seriously this is insane. We won World War 2, built the SR-71, flew to the moon and back, built and flew the Concorde without a single loss of life for over thirty years with a slide rule and a typewriter. Now, with all our fancy computational chicanery, we have a broken down space pick-em-up truck that was twice wrecked and can't be used more than twice a year, if even that, a fixer upper space habitat, a decrepit, half blind space telescope, and we can't get back to the moon if our life depended on it. And the schools think that a secretary's office program will save the day? We are in a heap of trouble. The art of learning is going straight down the toilet.
The truth is...there is no article:-) It was a video, and yes, I did watch, as painful as it was.
...there was no real world basis for the scenario of ruining the credit, telephone, and life of the agent...
And those are actions taken based on false information. And it is those people who actually deny credit, service, work that I will hold accountable. They are the guilty party here. Do it that way, and people will act more responsibly. And just maybe they won't be so quick to judge others. It's not a matter of personal experience. I will go after those who act against me. They are (ir)responsible. They are the lazy, negligent ones, and they are the ones who should suffer for it. The problem will clear up as soon as we all get on the same page. It is worth repeating that you should go after the sinner, and ignore the serpent.
:-) I have a very easy time of keeping words and actions widely separated from each other. I will forever believe in "Sticks and stones..." So the machine gun never crosses my mind for even a microsecond. Take a look at how I respond to the recent swipes some ACs have taken at me. I'm still waiting for a response from them. Basically all I can tell them is, "Pull my finger". And it's over. I have just as much fun with them as they try to with me. Honestly, they mean nothing and are soon forgotten. Hell, they could be people from my fans list for all I know. I cannot, will not take it seriously. They are more than welcome to do as they please. They are only words. If they come at me swinging a machete, well, obviously that's another thing entirely, no? So, please, put the gun down. If I want to be shot at, I promise that you'll be the first to know.
Posting as an AC eliminates the possibility of ad hominem responses.
I wish that was so. Posting as AC is the basis of the ad hominem for many. As pointed out in the stupid sigs they use. They believe the comment has no value because it was posted by an AC. That is the essence of the term.
the simple conversion is less complicated than this whole mechanical transmission. And since the conversion is also still there in the Prius, the transmission is a waste, and to me dead weight. I honestly can't figure out what they were thinking. The Chevy is more like a locomotive, but with batteries. Much simpler. Since the batteries are driving the electric motors anyway, it's much better to simply keep the batteries charged up all the time. If they really wanted more efficiency, they should use a stirling engine, since fast response time is not an issue here.
The person behind the first (it was Japanese) board of this form argued that often good posters with real lives don't post as they cannot be bothered to waste time registering, while poor posters with no lives and huge egos will register. With no name you cannot develop a reputation to fuel your ego.
Right on. And it also needs to be pointed out that many good ideas will never be heard if the author is forced to identify himself. They will simply clam up or create a false ID. In addition to the ratings angle, this is attempt to get the public to go along with up and coming anti-anomitity laws, and given Clinton's and the democrats history of pushing things like clipper chips and back doors(Paradoxically, MnCain was the hero in that case in helping to defeat it), you can bet Hillary will push for it when she gets elected. This is your future if you allow it.
right here on Slashdot who feel the same way. "I ignore ACs" "I don't respond to ACs" "I mod ACs to -6". I think it's sick. Those people are closed minded so-n-sos. Well, all you ACs out there, I DO respond if the comment is worth responding to. I don't care where it comes from. I derive value from the comment itself, not necessarily the author. Don't let anybody shut you down. Use whatever abilities you have to be heard.
I hope they start producing this thing soon and the public picks it up. The whole concept is so much better than the Prius. It sure looks a lot better. I wish the windows were bigger. It's sad that there is only three comments on it. Somehow we need to push GM to start production. I would never buy a Prius due to its needless complexity.
Looks like our comments are going unnoticed. GM is way ahead of Toyota here. They're already talking bio-diesel. Unfortunately it's only a concept car still. But this is the way to go. I'm very surprised nobody's picked up on it, especially here. Eh...
I don't have a problem with our system of government; it's flawed, but nobody has come up with a better system yet....
Thanks for making my point. Why do you say it's flawed? And since when is it somebody else's responsibility to come up with a better system?? Either way, you are a fine display of the cause, seeing as that you have no problem because the problems it does have don't affect you personally. So why should you care, or even notice? As long as you are on the right end of the big stick, everything is hunky-dory, right? I mean, for example, you're not the one who spent 30 years in prison for a murder you didn't commit. So hey, no problem. I thank you for your profound revelation. I shall refer to it often.
You still have failed to come up with any ideas about solutions..
Yeah, I did. I said vote the crooks out. But that won't happen as long as the voters believe they will derive some personal benefit from that corruption. So, what's YOUR solution for dealing with corrupt voters? Sounds like a personal problem to me that must be solved by each individual person him/herself. All I can suggest is try to look beyond your own nose and try to think of how you affect others with the the people you put into office. If you won't do that, then it's hopeless, and I will simply forget about all of you and move on. The solution is in the mirror. It doesn't come from me. The empathy towards others comes from within, not from convincing evidence on either side. But I won't call you all idiots for willfully putting criminals into office. I will call you accomplices, or collaborators for aiding and abetting because that is what you are. It makes you just as guilty as the politician you put there. At least an idiot would have an excuse. What would be yours??? You want a better system? YOU make a better system! THINK! That better system is inside your little, wooden heads. Don't blame me if you don't wish to make use of it. Complaining about people who point that out to you is not going to help. That's just passing the buck in a vain attempt to avoid your own responsibilities. Which explains perfectly why your present group of politicians are doing the same thing. You all are a perfect reflection of each other. Which may explain why you can't see the problem. So there you are . There's your solution. Like Groucho said, "It's something you always have with you." The choice is yours. What's it going to be, huh???

...teachers only accepted work in plain old "dead tree" format.
Not only that, we had to use "dead tree calculators" and "dead rock word processors" Life was hell.

As a matter of fact, have you read TFA?

We don't want them there.
Whoa! Am I detecting trouble in paradise? Those discussions must be fascinating. *sigh* Everybody's at war.
How have they "gotten" to others? With more words? Or real action? I will concern myself with the action taken, regardless of the motivation.

You never know if you'll come out of it alive. Party on. Heh, in marriage you don't want to come out of it alive..."Till death do us part"?
Well, this is FOX we're talking about here. It's all about ratings. And FUD, like lesbians = ratings. Personally, I'd rather see more lesbians.
the V-chip.
When did we start on the euphemism treadmill?
Probably around the time somebody complained about "master/slave" drive setups.
As long as they get this kind of press, they'll never get bored. The FOX story is a great recruitment piece.

Yep, Compared to this the Prius is a real Rube Goldberg device. I'm surprised that they went that way with it. Too much unnecessary monkey motion.

I'd say their engineering is spot on, given their goals.
General Motors does it much better. This is the proper way to do hybrids. No goofy transmissions needed.
You all know the routine.
