And even if they do get dragged into court will it matter? Did anything real happen after US DOJ convicted them of antitrust? (For that matter, did anything happen to anyone in the GWB admin after lying to justify the invasion of a sovereign country for monetary gain?)
IMHO the only thing that will ever make a difference is determined worldwide resistance to the use of Microsoft's products.
I was just asked to take over a brand new website who'se design is such that it will only work with IE. When I pointed that out, they said, "we realize that. we've decided it's too much trouble to support everything out there".
I told them that when I see such a site I assume the owners attitude is "If you don't run IE on Windows, you're not worthy to do business with us, we don't need your money. If you want the privilege of buying our product, change to Windows/IE!". They replied that they can do without the small percentage of "non-conformists" out there, to which I replied that I won't be part of something that forces Microsoft on the public and harms everything else.
So I still don't get it... if I were to open a web-store I'd consider a prospective customer who can't deal because of compatability issues a lost sale. I'd want to do business with anyone! (why else would I build a site visible to the world in the internet??)
I usually use Firefox because of it's live bookmarks. However when push comes to shove, if I could only have one browser it would be Seamonkey. Not only is it the most complete internet suite (it includes.html editor, irc, email, etc), but seems to render websites a bit more reliably and it crashes a bit less frequently than anything else I've tried recently (To be fair, I'm not including IE since I don't use Windows)
Agreed, the Libs had to go. Those of us who remember Reagan-Lite^H^H^H^H^H^H Mulroney should have noticed that we're not a 2 party system. I vote to give the NDP a shot at it too (although this is getting OT)
And still the most straightforward and easiest to use distro out there IMHO. I succeeded with it 4 years ago after giving up on Red Hat, Mandrake, Corel.
This article is titled "Scottish police pick Windows in software line-up", but the article is about the choice between two applications. It doesn't seem to be about choosing to run windows vs. a different O/S. (The article says they were running StarOffice from Solaris/Linux servers but on windows machines... were they really running x-emulation software on windows to communicate with the solaris/linux hosts or did they have the user component of Staroffice running on those windows machines?)
The fact that the author chooses a title this misleading makes me wonder how much of the rest of the article is "the whole truth and nothing but the truth" I'm afraid
Liberals introduced it. Steve (Bush-lite) Harper, leader of the Conservatives will grovel to big business rather than oppose the Liberals on this one. I'm afraid it's as good as done:(
But I think they just want to make you and I think something either very positive or very negative to associate with their stinking brand, to make it impossible to forget that brand name. We're stupid enough to allow it to work, Microsoft being a case in point.
And how about TV commercials? They're so annoying that I haven't watched anything other than VCR's or DVD's in years. Yet it pays for all that programming.
Slackware is my favourite too, since it seems to be well suited to just about anything and it's got the right mix between new/stable. But I think the PHB's would be unhappy with just the slackware handbook.
It took me 35m to put slackware on this machine and then about another hour to tweak it & get the applications I need on it that don't come with the distro.
This was after struggling for 3 weeks putting Windows on/dev/hda1, and I never did get XP to work; finally settled with 98.
I know Windows usually ain't that bad, it's just luck of the draw. But it can happen to any OS. Please don't assume that Linux sucks just from one bad experience.
I'm thinking "Knew or should have known"; in other words he is the CEO and is therefore responsible.
I kind of feel they deserved to be fleeced, but can they now sue SCO for selling them something that wasn't theirs to sell?

Meanwhile, Canada's Bush-Lite government about to adopt US DMCA laws :'(. I'm ashamed to be Canadian today.

Well, us Canucks were stupid enough to elect the Tory government :(

Good idea though. Knock the price down by 70% and I'd try one
Or just run the latest linux on that old PII in which case you don't have to buy a new PC or spend hundreds on an O/S
