There's a lot of behind the scenes stuff that went into killing the Northrup flying wings, but among the reasons it was not produced was stability. While the B-35's were stable in flight, they weren't stable enough to be accurate bombers. It's a moot point today unless you have a total electrical systems failure, but the flying wing and BWB aircraft are just not as naturally stable as the conventional design.
We actually got a letter from Sony via our ISP. This happened at least a month ago, but the letter stated that they had found a copy of a Korn song available from our IP and if we didn't take appropriate action blah blah...
I thought it interesting that the e-mail sent from Sony went out about one minute after they scanned our address... definately a bot. Here's a snipped up version of their letter the ISP forwarded on (I removed IP addresses):

RE: Unauthorized Distribution of Copyrighted Work: Korn
Dear Domain Name Services:
As you may know, the musical group Korn is currently subject to a recording agreement with Sony Music ("Sony") pursuant to which Sony is entitled to Korn's exclusive worldwide recording services and the exclusive, worldwide right to distribute all audio and audiovisual recordings recorded during the term of that agreement through any and all media, including distribution via the Internet.
We have received information that an individual located at... on your network has offered downloads of the above-mentioned work(s) at the noted date and time through your service. No one is authorized to perform, exhibit, reproduce, transmit, or otherwise distribute the above-mentioned work without the express written permission of Sony., which permission Sony has not granted to the user located at....

I'm guessing it was a catastrophic engine failure.
Depending on how it fails, it can come off the airframe. There are fuse pins in place that will shear at a certain load to prevent damage to the airframe.
Two Boeing 747's crashed in the early 1990's when their fuse pins failed. Admittedly it was caused by a cargo door coming open in flight and the debris killing #3 engine which came off and took #4 with it.
But engines don't normally come off in flight; the stress that would cause that would rip off the wing (or at least parts of it) first.
I'm leaning towards a catasproohic engine failure, perhaps precipitated by another event such as a cargo door opening (which would happen most often on climb out soon after take off due to the changing pressure). ANother factor is that the airplane had had an "A check" maintenance stop the day before.
"They" are trying to come up with a system so you don't HAVE to type that data in over and over (good for those of us with RSI). The corporate world throws in the added benifit for themselves of keeping the data that allows them to profile and target consumers. What we need is a system that benefits us. I don't mind helping a company out but I want to choose when to do it.
You can argue that if you don't like it you don't have to do it, but what if it becomes a wide spread system? What if for some assinine system the US government started using MS passport to log into the IRS page and you HAD to file electronically? You start getting boxed into a corner. It's important that we have some say over the information profiles on us.
I hope not, but I'm optimistic. My bills are from AT&T. AFAIK all the circuits are AT&T. The only thing "excite" I ever saw was the start page they tried to get me to set up.
Additionally, the article said that if excite@home folds, they might sell off the different markets, I can see AT&T keeping their portion since they already have the customers, equipment, etc in place.
I'd sure hate to have to go back to gaming on a 56k!!!
As you know, the internet runs on connections. The crypt is a wonderful idea other than the fact that any country that hosts it will be put under enourmous pressure by other nations to kill it or bring themselves to the same standards as other nations. Even an oil rig in the middle of international waters needs a feed out, and what's it going to do when the land line is cut by the country whose traffic it passes through?
At this point your best bet would be to park a rig off of China; they have enough clout and obstinance to give WIPO/UN/US the finger for years to come.
Why should the onus be put on me to do work that prevents microsoft or another third party from profitting from my efforts?
On the other hand, I'm the publisher and writer of a website, and it is the responsibility of the creator of "property" to safeguard it from misuse and illegal use. It's not *your* job to protect my site and writings, it's mine. So suing microsoft over this could provide a precedent for the whole "circumventation device" thing (ala DeCCS). This aspect of smart tags breaks my control over copyright. So it's a circumventing (not quite the right word but i haven't had enough caffine yet to remember) technology like DeCCS and is barred by the DMCA, even if there's a fair use. In the past though, up until DeCCS, the producing company wasn't really liable if there were bona fide uses. If someone sues M$ over this it could backfire and give more leverage against companies who write software that have dual purposes or can be misused.
I wish this were more coherant but sometimes a little incoherancy is good for a discussion:)
The point is that you shouldn't HAVE to. Yes, providing copywritten material without the proper kickback is illegal, but the RIAA and industry are being overly restrictive. You shouldn't HAVE to go underground for such an obvious extension of fair use (digital copies of music, not trading).
I'm hoping that at some point the halls of congress will ask "why is a corporation's rights more important than an individual? Wasn't our country set up around the sanctity of the individual?"
I imagine that it will be drowned out by the chorus of "your company will pay me HOW much???"
I have a friend who has a side business as a computer geek for home users, setup, system maint type stuff. He's run into a couple of occasions where the cable guys would flat out refuse to work on a system if there was a firewall installed.
One wonders if this is lack of knowledge on their part or company policy to not do anything that might generate customer service calls from confused users who don't understand what the warnings mean?
I think it would depend on how much Oxygen was in the pocket. Not ever having dealt with mining and drilling before I don't know how pure those pockets would be.
I think the pressure the gas is under might have some bearing as well...

Most planes fly straight and level or at constant rates of climb, decent, etc. and can be filtered out. Also the ballistic missiles are shapped the way they are for max range, lowest cost, etc. No one is going to make a missile to spoof a radar into thinking it's a supersonic piper cub at 80,000 feet, maybe decrease it's signature so that it's harder to spot; but then again these things get so hot and throw out so much heat a lot of the detection is done thermally anyway.
Now, if they start wanting to use it on planes as well they're going to have to really watch it and make sure the computer can pick out the right guy or gal!)... sometimes the IFF (Identify friend or Foe) doesn't work or is turned off to lower the aircraft's emissions.

Violence HAS solved more problems. Whether or not it is the best method of solving them is debatable, but throughout human history (or even earth.. how many animals do you know of that solve territorial disputes by discourse?) violence has been a consistent form people have taken to solve significant problems.

Non-profits are good for helping disadvantaged people pull themselves up out of that bottom part of the pyramid to make the diamond shape real.
Too many people are emphasizing the health of the economy over the health of the populace. There needs to be a balance.
