What, can Windows98 users upgrade to 2003 for free? I would be rather pissed off if I bought Windows98 and expected upgrades to be free. In fact, I would be rather pissed if I bought Windows98.
Hibernate-logout hybrid: save data relevant to all programs you have running and logout. Next login starts up everything as you left it. To be presented as an option on logout, for use in shared computers (particularly at a college).
You missed the second "=". (variable1 = variable2) or (variable = constant) has always been true. Just what we need, some excuse for a programmer talking about the kernel. Humph.
But would the copyright still apply? Or is it impossible to copyright personal data? This would couse problems, as someone might sue the government for knowing their name.
I suppose that several computers will connect to a single computer in charge of transmitting the traffic. I suppose the speciallized computer could transmit at that speed, but perhaps they put in extra for the future.
Do people around here know that viruses are used to insert DNA into organisms? They fix the virus so it contains the DNA they want and the virus inserts it into the cell. So even if these GM fish are sterile, their genes could potentially spread.

Perhaps that is their plan -- come Christmas people will buy a computer to some poor victim who doesn't have one yet, and have them grow up on AOL. If people continue the service for longer than a year, they will get their profits.
They could just queue the messages and send them at 2 emails every minute. Most people wouldn't have a problem with that; those that do could make arrangements.
This will increase zombification of windoze machines, though.
It is percisely why the grandparent is right. Our goal is to have good content easily available. The way we go about reaching the goal can change depending on the user's age/intelligence/education/whatnot and type of content. You put pictures as links for children (or horny adults), headings for news sites, alphabetical listings and search boxes for dictionaries/encyclopedias. But your goal is for the user to quickly and easily find what he is looking for.
At least I can get to anywhere on Slashdot in ThreeClicks.:-) Does anyone know if this was intentional design?
PS: I would get pretty pissed if I couldn't get to where I wanted on Sashdot within 3 clicks. This is more due to speed than clicks, though. Also, it does not apply as strongly to sites I use less often.
Slashdot FAQ: Some of my favorite "bad" or off-topic comments are things like "Slashdot sucks!" and "This isn't news for nerds!" and "Moderate this XXX!" Any of these may be true, but they're probably off topic! --CmdrTaco
Can people please just say, "Doesn't equal" already?
I'm sorry, there's so many programmers here, and != is shorter and (for me) clearer than 'doesn't equal'. Look on the bright side, though, you won't be so clueless when you decide to start coding:-)
In fact, the whole Song of Solomon is about lovers, and includes descriptions of breasts.
Proverbs also has a few good things to say about sex.
Did you know that Solomon's most famous act of wisdom was resolving a conflict between two women about which of the two prostitutes was the real mother of the baby? Now imagine the same case if brought to court today (let alone to the president)?
To clarify my previous post, I am not for very graphical violence (in fact, I find it disgusting if it is too realistic. Interestingly, I find sex disgusting only if it is not realistic)
Like, will they start up all your browser windows at the last page you were viewing?

**turns beet red and tries to change the subject**
But he should have said "reality == C|Net" then he wouldn't have made the mistake, or it would give a compilation error.

I'd like this for my college:

I think we should get several million people to put internet cache on their computers. Then the internet will be closer, so less latency.

Wasn't it "One man's food is anothen man's poison"?
Microsoft anounces a new sentient computer.
It does nothing but look at pr0n all day, and was inspirede upon suggestion from ISPs.

Someone else beat you to this post.
Also, the story is suggesting that
1) AOL is offering the computer at an outrageous price
2)???
3)Profit!
and wondering about 2)

Every homepage should have a [google] search box.
Corollary: A single page should not have more links than the search results from google.
I would vote for the 30 Second Rule for sites I do not use often, and the 3 Second rule for sites like Slashdot.

Watch me get modded down for saying this

Lucky you said something useful as well.

Hey, I'm a christian, and I don't think bad about sex.
Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth-

What if daddy buys them a copy of the game himself?
I say that daddies have a better sense of their child's responsibility than the law.
Or they don't care.
From the FA:
Their study argues that playing violent games is directly related to violent behavior.
So are they violent because they play violent games, or do they play violent games because they are violent?
