I've had some direct experience dealing with both Toyota and Tesla and their approach to automation. 100% completely incompatible.
Toyota: study something methodically, systematically and comprehensively and get better over time. Win.
Tesla: Just do it. Fail. Think about it a very tiny bit and then Just do it again. Win.
Both good at certain things but a marriage would be the worst thing for both.
It strikes me that somehow Elon Musk has managed to chase principled objectives completely independent of financial performance and in a way that has completely fooled the people with the control of money to parting with what they have. Here's hoping that the ruse persists since the actual impact goes way beyond making people some money.
Agreed. The answer is "whatever makes you most happy" which could be "what will make me the most money" for some and "will get me to travel the most" for others and "give me lots of social interaction" for others and "let me get my elbows-deep in pig shit" for others.
It's anybody's guess what will float this guys boat.
I wish I wasn't so drunk that I couldn't figure out how slashdot scoring works. This is awesome specifics and effort and I really want to bump this up!
I use the 407 with the automatic licence plate cameras several times a year and never fail to get a bill. There is a service charge for not using a transponder so if you use it regularly they want you use the transponder - which seems to suggest that there is at least an increased chance of "no-read" with the cameras.
I've never seen anything in the media regarding complaints of false-positives - I can nearly for certain say that this is extremely uncommon.
I'm shocked that this is just coming down to you guys - it has been in place here for over 10 years! Jeez - auto-triggering and OCR on very specific number patterns was very possible in 1990!
I wish I lived in a world where I could offer to do this for you - but I'd be terribly afraid to ship off a laptop without any hope of payback. I half-jokingly suggested doing this for someone and they called it the "give one, get none" program (clever!) - but it's just as risky the other way around, ummm, "give two, get none"? (Not quite so clever!). Perhaps OLPC just needs a kick to get production running and later they'll open up the project worldwide. Happy waiting!
So the OLPC laptops aren't screaming off the shelves - even though they have undeniable technical merits (read: superior!) and it just may be possible that this is the result of improper trade practices. But since the project =is= competitive, the thing that will pull it ahead is a demonstrated success story. Even if the laptops need to be given away at first, a successful distribution in a country will show other countries what they get for their money. Time for slashdotters to get off their complacent, omni-whining assess and stop complaining about "the big guys" and =DO= something. If you can afford it, GO GET ONE.

Reading the above and looking at some of the searches I was leaning towards thinking that the search results were just bad, NOT intentionally misrepresented. But then I did an MSN search for "internet search" and "search engine" and in both cases had to go through to the 3rd or 4th page before I got a link to google. That was well past the "featured sites" list.
But at least google made it to the top of the list when I searched "google"! I guess they decided they could only hide so much...

Well, you might be able to find a friendly Canadian that might be able to pick one up for you :o)
