Although Dempsey says that a solution "might be" a second internet, which to me sounds silly, he does make some very valid points on how cybercrime needs to be handled across borders.
It seems that many countries just want to forbid things, with regards to the internet, rather than adjust to a new way of looking at crime committed through the internet.
If it turns out that law enforcement can't or won't adjust to the speed in which cybercriminals operate, maybe the only way to help prevent crime is to educate the users, or even help write better software (against spoofing etc.).
I have found that even in FF2 memory usage has remarkably improved, and it really doesn't crash my browser anymore (I am running W2K on a 6 1/2 year old T21 w/ 512mb RAM) like it did before.
One thing I noted that it now asks to stop stupid scripts from loading (like on yahoo sites - I do use noscript, but have to allow its use for yahoo mail).
If you RTA you see that an Indian company is involved in building the cable as well - it's NOT just Japan.
From the article: "Bharti Airtel Limited, is India's leading integrated telecom services provider with an aggregate of 60 million customers."
Ha - Just $200-300 a month on COBRA right?! Well forget about that!
I lost my job last year and my initial COBRA payments where a fairly reasonable $400, but the company decided to up it in the new year to a whopping $800 (just $42 of that amount was for dental - the rest was all medical for just ONE person).
They made sure that the premiums didn't go up for their existing employees - they took it out on the ones they had dumped instead!
Enough is enough!
When I go to the hospital to get a broken leg fixed and they plaster my arm instead they can claim that they made no warranty to fixing the leg?!
The only thing they needed to fix was the power button, NOT the hard drive with data.
Stop being a pedantic moron!
Good riddance!
Anyway, seriously my thoughts on what's wrong in US politics is the often absolute power one party has. If there's only two parties than one party always will be too powerful.
If on the other hand there were truly more parties (forget about the marginal parties that exist), then they would be forced to compromise, something that has been lacking for (at least) the last seven years.
Even with the Democratic win in 2006 it's still a game of chicken, and there's no true compromise.
Maybe it's time for a multi party parliamentary democracy here in the US.
It was clearly stated that OLPC couldn't guarantee when the laptops would be shipped. They only promised to get the very first ones (like myself) shipped in time for xmas.
I have to admit that even I had a problem with their address - they had dropped my actual unit number, so it took a few xtra days to get it (it arrived on Dec 21st).
As a Dutch citizen living in the US, I would miss any view points outside the US. I really need to have access to other countries (mainly Europe, but Autralia too) to get an extended view of the world.

With this new cable our jobs here in the US can be outsourced faster.
Modded down to off topic?! - Someone has no sense of humour :P
Mandatory comment!
What point of sale software are we talking about :)

ABBA has sold over 400 million records to date and still sells millions more every year!

Oi! Watch it! I have all the parts you guys so desperately want (and apparently can't get). Maybe I should change my id to LadyGeek!

Truth is that we're almost always right anyway! So you can just check your recordings to see how wrong you were!
Maybe we will finally get back in touch with Lister!
