It's a lot easier to set up a wireless internet base station than you might think.
I did say that's where wireless comes in, that it's easy to "erect tower transceivers and offer wireless access." To go on I also said "That is they could if the FCC didn't interfere." Fact is is the airwaves are licensed because large broadcasters wanted to limit their competition. Before the Federal Radio Commission (FRC), which became the FCC, started licensing radio frequencies people were allowed to homestead the airwaves. Courts even were ruling the first person to broadcast on specific frequencies in specific areas had the right to broadcast on that frequency without interference, ie if someone else came along and started to broadcast and interfered with someone who already was broadcasting they had to stop the interference.
In short, it costs a ridiculous amount of money to bring bandwidth to consumers that are only going to be paying $30/m or $60/m. It's surprisingly hard to make ends meet.
That is the primary reason you don't see a lot more competition.
No, the reason you don't see competition is because the incumbents were given monopolies. Even if I had a trillion dollars I could not just go and lay copper or fiber anywhere I wanted, I do not have the ability to use the Right of Way or easement.
I haven't done much hacking in a long tyme, years, myself. About all I do is cooking and gardening. So I've been thinking of combining electronics and gardening. Makezine printed an article on using a Garduino microcontroller to garden. It measures how much light and water plants get and if needed will turn on grow lights or a water pump. It's a bit late for this year though. Now what I'd do if I had a greenhouse would be to add heating, preferably geothermal, then I could add a month or two to garden.
So they're either going to fuck with our connections *or* we can pay for what we use. Something is going to give and I'd rather they treat all my traffic the same, so I'd rather pay for a metered service like I do with electricity.
I'd rather there be competition so I can choice who will be my service provider, and that includes electricity. With competition providers will have to compeat with each other. Unfortunately the logistically only way I see for there to be competition in landline services is by having the sales of services to be separated from the ownership of the landline infrastructure used to deliver the service. This is where airwaves and broadcasting comes in, anyone could erect tower transceivers and offer wireless access. That is they could if the FCC didn't interfere.
Maybe in your USA but not in mine. I frequently get junk mail advertising 7, 8, even 12mbs connection speeds. Unfortunately DSL isn't available. However Qwest does have fiber in the neighborhood. I just pulled out one of the ads I got and it says 7Mbps for $25 for 12 months. Along with the offer is free Wifi, but that's through ATT and ATT already offers free wifi in some places. Such as Barnes and Noble. Just for the heck of it I entered my address into Qwest's address lookup to make sure it was available here and it was. If I could keep my current ISP and get fiber I would but my ISP doesn't offer access through Qwest.
Yeah. We're still stuck with that.
Unfortunately for most people you're right, for most it's put up with one choice or go without.
against certain websites or Internet-based services because the steps they would have to take, he said.
Carriers already try to be gatekeepers. Comcast does, did, so with bitTorrent.
Most people basically want net neutrality, so it would be hard for carriers to justify network management measures that are seen as discriminatory, Klinker said.
This would be true but most people have no choice who they get broadband from. They either get it from either cable or telephone. And most of those don't have access to both. Without competition the only choice is the only broadband choice offered or nothing. Government has given big businesses monopolies when there is no reason for the monopoly.
I also note the claim I did make, that "Zionists will do almost anything to create a Jewish state for Jews only", wasn't commented on.
For a number of reasons. First of all, it's an unfair categorization: Anyone who's pro-Israel = Zionist = willing to murder in cold blood "to create a Jewish state for Jews only".
Show me where I said "pro-Israel = Zionist" never mind the " = willing to murder in cold blood" part. If you can't stop spreading lies.
Since you can't carry on a conversation without making up lies I see no reason to continue.
He bought it from some guy who had written it as a clone of CP/M.
Partially right. Originally Gary Kildall starting working on DOS for the company he also started, Digital Research. He based it on CP/M which he also programmed. However DR would not accept IBM's offer of $250,000 for all the copies of the OS IBM wanted. Instead he wanted royalties. So then IBM went to Bill Gates who bought a non-exclusive license to 86-DOS, which was based on DR's DOS.
The only noteworthy thing that Gates himself actually coded was Microsoft BASIC.
BASIC was the only thing Gates programmed half-way-decent, but he saw the potential of microcomputers and the software they ran. After that he did whatever needed to make sure his company was on top, whatever it took.
Then there was a new subset, called "computer hackers". Now the former are known as "hardware hackers" and the latter simply as "hackers". (and with only the negative connotations)
So, to use a car analogy, they stole the car, but only to see how fast it would go?
This is one case where the car analogy doesn't work. A stolen car deprives the owner of the car, unless of course the robber forces the owner to go too. The use of a blue, or black or red, box does not deprive the phone company anything.
Of course, but when the state decides to finance the Mars expedition it is our money we are talking about.
No, when the state, er federal government, decides to do something it first needs to know it has the Constitutional authority. And the feds do not have the power to fund a Mars expedition.
Now I can see the authority if the Southern Block gains control of Mars and it's mines;-)
That's only because Palestinians either fled or were driven out of Israel. If Palestinians had the same Right of Return as Jews then Israel's Jewish population would be overcome.
There are 32 countries with more than 75% of muslim population, some of them with more than 99%. Total area of muslim countries is around 30%, take or give. And its not just any land, its fscking oil rich land.
What the fuck dies that have to do with it?
In these muslim countries jews are not even allowed to own property. People can't even enter these countries with an Israeli passport, not even for tourism.
Citation required. Of course you may not provide one but unless I am provided evidence of it I will not believe your claims.
Muslims in Israel are allowed to own property, vote and enjoy the same rights that the jews have.
Unless of course Israelis want that land. And if not just Muslims but others too have the same rights then why are Muslims being Massacred? For more check out Google's results for Israeli Massacres and A Brief List of Massacres in Palestine. No less than Israel's first Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion said ""We must expel Arabs and take their places... and if we have to use force... to guarantee our own right to settle these places -- then we have force at our disposal." The Tikkun article was written by a Jew and Tikkun is edited by Rabbi Michael Lerner so this is not an anti-semetic shot, includes quotes from other Israeli founders as well. Such as Shlomo Lavie who declared that "transfer of Arabs out of the country in my eyes is one of the most just, moral, and correct things that can be done." Another said "All moral enterprises are carried out through compulsion.... The transfer [of Palestinians] is a just, logical, moral, and humane program in all senses" (quoted, along with the three prior quotations, in Nur Masalha's The Politics of Denial of 2003).
So how is that Jew became the majority in Israel? And do none Jews really have the same rights?
Look, my point is, you have made an extraordinary claim: in effect, "The Jewish military ran a bulldozer over Rachel Corrie on purpose because she stood between them and a Jewish state for Jews only."
Actually I repeated the claim, I didn't make it to begin with. However I should have stated that when I repeated the claim.
The people who claim to be eyewitnesses of it are (a) friends of Rachel, to some degree and (b) very biased against the Israeli government. Their testimony is highly suspect.
And those who claimed otherwise, like the military weren't biased nor suspect?
I also note the claim I did make, that "Zionists will do almost anything to create a Jewish state for Jews only", wasn't commented on.
I also note you did not say anything about it's constitutionality. Is that because you can't come up with a cogent argument?
You didn't, so why should I?:)
If you're not willing to provide evidence to back up your claim then you are not trying to change any one's mind. So I see no reason to try to debate with you.
As for the rest of your post, there wasn't the hatred you wrote of "The hatred they have for each other is ingrained from birth an cannot be resolved" was not there before or during WWII. It only cam with the founding of Israel. Israeli founders wanted to ethnic cleanse Israel. Don't believe me? Take the words of some of Israel's founders. Try for instance some of those quoted by Tikkun, a Jewish group.
"Shlomo Lavie, a well-known leader of the Israeli Labor Party, the Mapai, declared that the 'transfer of Arabs out of the country in my eyes is one of the most just, moral, and correct things that can be done.'"
Or another Mapai leader, Avraham Katznelson, who "felt that nothing was 'more moral, from the viewpoint of universal human ethics, than the emptying of the Jewish state of the Arabs and their transfer elsewhere.... This requires... force.'"
Or take the Israeli massacres against Palestinians. Irgun and Lehi, who the British in the British Mandate called terrorists. No less than Ariel Sharon led Israeli troops in the massacre in the West Bank village of Qibya. Hell Lehi even offered to work with the NAZIs. Wiki and Google, that wiki article is the first Google result, provides brief lists of Israeli massacres against Palestinians.
Now tell me again how separation will end all the problems in the Israeli/Palestinian conflict and that Israeli expansionism and ethnic cleansing aren't part of the problem.
Mechanical asphyxiation with fractures and hemorrhaging sounds a lot more like having a wall fall over on you than it does like having a 50-ton bulldozer run over you.
It does not say how those wounds were caused, so it does not deny a bulldozer went over her.
In any case, standing in the way of a 50-ton bulldozer is stupid.
No, what is stupid is not being willing to stand up for what you believe. At least she did that.
However other things such as health care have already showed socialism.
I call BS. Give me your definition of socialism and we'll see whether the healthcare bill fits it. Taking Wikipedia's definition, which you are free to reject:
Socialism refers to the various theories of economic organization which advocate either public or direct worker ownership and administration of the means of production and allocation of resources.
That's right. The new health insurance law is about governmental allocation of resources. I can not allocate my money how I want to, instead this law will force me to buy insurance I may not want. And if I don''t want it? Too bad, if I don't I will be fined. Call BS all you want but go ahead and ignore reality. In reality government is allocating other people's resources, their money.
I also note you did not say anything about it's constitutionality. Is that because you can't come up with a cogent argument?
Some in Israel are or were fighting Arabs. And that includes Israel's Founding Fathers. Avraham Katznelson "felt that nothing was 'more moral, from the viewpoint of universal human ethics, than the emptying of the Jewish state of the Arabs and their transfer elsewhere.... This requires... force.'" In the same article David Ben-Gurion said "We must expel Arabs and take their places... and if we have to use force... to guarantee our own right to settle these places -- then we have force at our disposal."
Oh, and note that that website is not antisemitic or anti-Israel, it is the website of the Jewish group Tikkun run by Rabbi Michael Lerner. "Tikkun" means "to heal, repair, and transform the world."
So how is that Jew became the majority in Israel? And do none Jews really have the same rights?
My point is: muslims have more rights in Israel than jews have in muslim countries. I don't think you need a citation for that.
I do need citation that Jews are not allowed to own property, and are not allowed in Arab nations because they have an Israeli passport.
