Yes, I think this is something FPS games have been missing for quite some time. Actually, I have Vigilante8: 2nd Offence for the Sega Dreamcast. Although this isn't exactly an FPS like the UT series of games, this game actually does have environmental damage. Weapon fire does not appear to affect the ground or hills, but you can shoot at buildings, signs, and other man-made structures to do damage. Shoot enough, and the structure will explode and/or collapse. That's the only game I've found so far that does this.

If anyone has played this game, what's with the 20-story tall ant crawling around in Arizona?

Although Quake3 was a fun game, IMHO, Quake2 was more enjoyable. I think the BFG10k was a bit much in Quake3. Rapid fire plasma blobs firing at your opponents... I feel Quake2 took more skill. It did have a BFG gun, but it certainly wasn't rapid-fire. The game seemed to concentrate more on the mission than on just bouncing around killing as many enemies as possible. But maybe that's what Quake3 was meant for.

I do agree with the whole feature creep problem with these IM clients. It's an IM client. Why do we need an IM client packed full with a web browser, popup blocker, spyware scanner, email client, aim today crap....? Maybe AIM 6.0 will provide a media player to play your DVD movies.

Tell that to my wife. Her computer sits right next to mine. I dual-boot XP and Gentoo, she runs XP. The other day, my computer was sitting idle on my XP desktop, and hers was off. She turned her system on just to check some TV listings on our cable TV website. When I asked her why she didn't just use my system since it was already on, she said "Because you DON'T RUN WINDOWS!" Granted, my XP desktop is running Windowblinds and ObjectDock to look somewhat more like Mac OSX. :-) So some people DO care what OS is running on the system.

This seems to be working well for me. If I run into an application that needs admin to work properly, there is always RunAs. Of course, the average user doesn't know about RunAs, but if the OS made that more apparent (akin to KDE's prompt for the root password for certain apps) then it may be better. Some people may not like the automatic-prompt-for-root(admin)-password dialog, but the user needs to be in the wheel group in order to su to root anyway. Seems the same can be done in Windows.

Kids will certainly see Microsoft platforms after school, and very well may see Linux systems, as well as Mac.
