Sure, THIS law won't result in 1984 crashing down around us, but it is a slow and steady usurpation of state and individual rights. This is the same kind of problem that second amendment activists have been lamenting for years. This one law by itself won't present a problem right now, but where does it stop?
if _they_ could build a phone with a hard-drive and wi-fi with decent battery life, keyboard and multimillion color hi-res display, then _they_ wouldn't be able to sell gadget freaks like me three or four different devices. I say it won't happen...ever...

It's more of a 7th grade science project than a hack.
Besides, for 30 bucks or so, you can get a battery adapter thingie
Or if using the ipod in your car, you can get a car cigarette lighter adapter, and run a line in to the car stereo.
While I am aware that Macs and Amigas have had this for a while, Solaris has had this same feature ever since vold was invluded with it. (anyone with dates for that?)
