    I agree. Let the slashdotters start using words like "cornhole" to describe things and see if we can get the marketers to turn them into buzzwords that will show up everywhere like "extreme".

    Or...we're releasing the next edition of the electric car called the Chevrolet BallSack.

    have some software that some manager will want to buy because of its colorful view graphs that supposedly helps them make business decisions quicker and easier.

    In reality, most management types don't understand analytics at all, and when one of their math-geeks does, they are often overlooked as geek-speak.

    My feeling is that this is a swipe at Siebel/Oracle/SAP/whoever so Microsoft can add a feather to their cap and say that they are relevant in the enterprise space because they have a one-size-fits-all BI solution.

    I could be wrong, but I'm not.

    the support costs of a iSeries? Linux might save you a bit for software support, but that harware support, and arm-twisting upgrade schedule will have you pulling your hair.

    I can't speak for the iMac, but my QuickSilver G4 800 has been running fine for 4 years (with occasional reboots). The only problem I've had was with some memory I added later. I would say that the closer a Mac gets to commodity hardware, the worse the quality will be. Additionally, I don't have 25 of them to deal with, and I don't make money from my Mac.

    All this being said, I do have a fried who's had similar experiences to yours. Displays in the shop multiple times, with unknown ETR.

    Anyone care to speculate on whether their Mac was built on a Friday or a Tuesday, and to what degree this affects quality?

    So the lawyers are bleeding (or already have bled) SCO dry while SCO attempts (and fails) to bleed IBM dry. IBM is very, very good at the legal game. Don't forget that they won a trial against the government, which has an unlimited budget to prosecute these things.

    IBM has lawyers on the payroll all the time, and has deep pockets for the high priced ones they bring in for trials like this. I don't know who is getting rich, but I bet they don't retire.

    I wholeheartedly agree. Government spends money inefficiently. Plain and simple. When the people vote themselves largesse from the government, it spends it even more inefficiently. My libertarian ideals do not permit me to even believe in property tax in the first place. I paid income tax on the money I used to buy the property, then probably a sales tax too, and a real estate tax, why should I have to pay property tax to keep it. Didn't we have a tea party a long time ago about something very similar?

    to ask forgiveness than to seek permission. Put the memory in the server while the redundant server handles its work. Then do the same for the redundant one. Screw the bureaucratic fuck-monkeys. Things in the IT shops where I have worked have very often happened mysteriously or by accident. "Whoa, when did this code get fixed? Who installed that memory? When did this port get boosted to GigE?" etc. etc. etc.

    It's purely about extending platform domination. This stuff will require Windows/IE/whatever just to run, and that's where M$ makes its money.

    I'm sorry. You seem to think that the root cause is the industry that sells these sorts of things to the people that want them. Why not get rid of this "not my responsibility" attitude and point the finger of blame on the individual. There wouldn't be a cigarette industry if people didn't buy them. Likewise fast food. Cigarettes and fast food save us money by killing people sooner. Would you rather everyone lived to be 100 in a nursing home costing medicare/social security 5000 dollars a month?     Absofreakinlutely. If the source says that it finds some percentage of errors in patents, and in the same breath says that it will help you with your patents for a fee, you have to believe that their research is slanted. However, if NONE of the 98% of patents that have errors in them were consulted on by this company, and then 2% that are error free were consulted on by them, then they'll have my attention.

    If I'm reading this correctly, the air doesn't get sucked out of the gel, because the aerogel is a actually the solid silica that is left after drying and extracting the liquid. It is not a closed cell structure, and cannot actually "contain" the air. However, what with me not being a JPL scientist, I could be wrong.
