I found the following quote by a professor at ASU to be the most interesting in the entire article:
Is it more important for kids to hear the movie industry's message or should they be learning to read and pass new test standards?
How about saying neither one is important? Certainly, the tests are more important than sheepifying the children, but "new test standards" are not a good way to go about education, in my opinion.
Having recently gotten out of a school system pushing a new test standard (the WASL), I've decided that such tests are a threat to the future of many capable students. The WASL, in particular, essentially tested students' grasp of the English language (in bizarre contexts such as math story problems). Given that there were a lot of people in ESL (now called English Language Learners, for some presumably idiotic reason), it seemed like the WASL unfairly discriminated against those that were not proficient with English. The fact that the WASL is soon going to be a graduation requirement along side such stupidity as required "community service" (for everyone--not just delinquents anymore) makes me wonder what highschool dropout rates will skyrocket to in the near future.

Make sure it doesn't consume the whole of your being while you do so.
Wow, you've lost all credibility with that last post; you have a major logical flaw in the end of your comment: how can aliens implant memories USING A RECTAL PROBE?
Actually, I would say that the word "gay" has two meanings: 1) homosexual; 2) opposite of cool. Whether you distinguish between the two depends on your level of homophobicity.
For the record, I use the term "gay" to mean the 2nd definition and I instead substitute the word "homo" for use as the 1st definition of "gay."
I plan to submit these definitions to dictionary.com.
Isn't it just the skin cells that regenerate every 7 years? I'm not into biology or whatever, but I'm pretty sure that your brain cells (the important ones, anyway) DO NOT get replaced every 7 years because then you'd have to relearn everything.
The problem with those prefixes is they are the absolute GAYEST names that could ever be conceived. If I heard anyone use those terms in public I would be forced to verbally (and physically) assault them.
Everyone uses "mega" and "giga" and they sound fine. There's no need for new terms that only make people look ridiculous. Anyone who thinks those terms are correct needs to take note that no one uses those terms and they will only result in confusion.
I'll say "1024K" before I ever say that word which I dare not utter.
I think what you meant to say is that button mashing, hitting away, and using the same move/combo over and over wouldn't let you beat everyone like in Street Fighter.
Of course, if you researched the case (as some other posters apparently have) you'd know that the company that filed the patent and didn't sue anyone isn't around anymore and its patent ended up at a company that enjoys lawsuits and forcing people to pay for thinking.
Shouldn't this be modded insightful? Look at the vast amount of knowledge that can be found in blogs nowadays. Things like why Bush is ruining the world and how depressed/great/attractive people think they are.
A very large number of people think that this is some very decent pop music, too.
As for the "you can't comment until you've done better" argument, I'll just say that I've never found that one convincing. People will whine about anything no matter their level of experience.
Yeah, not allowing decapitations IN A GAME is what I'd call more liberal.
You can't blame Germany, the other members of whatever censor board made this decision agreed on it. Face it, the USA has a more enlightened view of violence in video games.
Free meaning something like $30? Sorry, but I don't wanna pay $30 to click on 2D sprites and watch them go through a finite number of death animations.
No, but it's not the fact that Glade is a UI builder that makes it simple. The whole callbacks-oriented model and being able to pick out controls/widgets using names (rather than variables or accessing trees) are the points that stand out to me.
I would imagine the Mac thing is at least as good as Glade, but, well, it's for Macs.
Luxor is an alternative implementation of the XUL format that relies on Java's ugly and slow abomination known as Swing. I don't consider it an option.
As for XPCOM, just mentioning that technology shows that XUL is unnecessarily complicated.
I think too much is made of Qt when compared with Gtk/Glade (Glade being the XML format for describing Gtk interfaces, not just a GUI GUI tool).
The Glade XML format is kind of strange (it looks like XML described in XML; a pointless scheme), but Glade simplifies GUI development to a point that I have yet to see anyone improve on, in terms of simplicity (I've worked with Tk, regular Gtk, wxWindows, and web-based applications).
RMS wills it!

I don't know about your school, but no one was required to say the pledge at my school. It was encouraged, but not required.
Additionally, I wouldn't call it brain washing since I never really thought about the words.

I don't think InfoSpace has pwned anyone.
