Irma S. Rombauer and Marion Rombauer Becker's "Joy Of Cooking" is as close to a technical manual for cooking as there is, and has been around for quite some time. It covers all the basics of foods and cooking techniques, and even gives some of their history. It's worth having even if you don't cook.
I'd like to see a version of this that removes every instance of the image from the page e.g. images in sigs (but not permanently like "block images from this site").

I work in the RF Connector industry, and I've noticed that newer government (military) specifications don't use "male" and "female," but rather "pin contact" and "socket contact." The rest of the industry still uses male and female (for now).
This is an old picture. It's not about warmth, it's about using your laptop in privacy while out in public.
