Yeah, there's no real reason to expect that tech will be any different than the myriad corporate sleazeballs buying congresscritters. They might start all noble but where will it end?
Tell me about it! A few days ago I bought about $100 worth of ink cartridges, in several lots of $20 (all from the same seller, the same night). But when they wouldn't ship the items OR issue me a refund, I went to launch a fraud complaint on EBay.
Guess what? The minimum purchase for filing a fraud complaint is $25! So they didn't do anything at all! It shows that if you want to scam on EBay, just do it in chunks less than $25.
If copyright laws hadn't been extended again and again in the US Mickey Mouse would be in the public domain. Disney, for example, took many stories in the public domain, profited, and then lobbied politicians to protect their copyright. THAT'S what I call disrespectful and unethical to boot.
The potential for the open-source mentality to move over to social projects is I think a tremendous opportunity. The USA is slowly sliding into a completely corporate-owned entity. If we can channel the technology to watch and thwart Big Brother government actions the world might be a different place

EBay is a dishonest, crooked business

John Ashcroft=Big Brother
Osama bin Laden=Emmanuel Goldstein (the former hero)
Ignorance is Strength=Iraq is FULL of WMD's!
Freedom is Slavery=Vote Bush for President!
War is Peace=Support the War on Terror!
Inner Party=Project for the New American Century (the neocon think tank)
Interesting to see how much effort they make in getting overseas soldiers vote, who are much more likely to vote for Bush
So if a plane flies over your house you should be given the credit-card info of the passengers inside?
Great, maybe I can set up a hut in the flight path at JFK. Woo hoo, who needs to work!

I already have Mozilla, Firebird and Opera installed. I end up using Opera about 90% of the time though
It's faster, doesn't have the clunkiness of an app that's designed by a large group of people, and is just plain smooth in operation
