All of Suns x64 servers come with an embedded Service Processor that provides an RS-232 serial CLI, has a networkable SSH accessibel version of the same CLI and also sports a full Remote Keyboard/Video/Mouse/Storage capability via a remote web browser and Java. that goes from 9.6kbps for the RS-232 CLi to whatever bandwidth you use for teh network connections.
not sure what windows would do with a serial line, but if you can make it provide you with a login prompt, the Service Processor can allow you to see either the Sp CLI on the serial line or switch to the host systems CLI...
VxWorks might be a challenge... some of their SPARC telco boxes have been qualified for VxWorks I beleive and they all use RS-232 CLI's by default and all have a similar Service Processor and CLI.
Really... you can't work out that its 12 bits wide, so that like... 4 bits of colour for red and four for blue and four for green...
Boy what are they teaching in college these days...
Every Block is checksummed in ZFS, and the checksum is held in a different part of the disk, not just tacked on the end of the block of data you just read.. so silent corruption is far less likely.. so you KNOW that everything you read from ZFS is good or bad, and if ZFS has a copy of data flagged as bad, due to the user setting up a mirror, then ZFS will try copy that and, if possible, provide you with the good data and fix the bad data in the broken copy in the background... The RAID 5 implementation (RAID-Z in ZFS terms) goes a step further and allows correction of corrupted stripes from mirrors or parity copies, and stripes are variable width, not fixed width like RAID 5.
I think you'll also find that your name and the credit card number are written in embossed print in plain text on the front and back of the credit card....
So its only slightly amazing to me that you worry about it being on the magnetic stipe too...
Face it if you lose the card its game over...
Peter
Heh...
So will my Dual opteron 246 (2.0GHz), 4GB RAM, nVidia 6800GT, system benefit from the dual CPU's or was that bit a waste of money:-), it whips along in FarCry with everything turned on at maximums and 1280x1024 I get about 40-60fps
Having said that my older system... the P4 2.77ghz(overclocked 2.53ghz), 1GB RAM, GeForce Ti4600, worked perfectly happily on medium-high settings at almost the same speeds... so there is defintely some variance here...
The opteron box with an older FX5200 card was unplayably slow on FarCry with even minimal settings... so its definitely going to benefit from the best graphics card you can afford.. forget the rest of the system specs.
OK Wise arse, where is your car, I see you make it sound sooooo simple...whereas all you have demonstrated is that you have NO , NADA, ZIP, NIL ZERO understanding of the challenges involved...
Come on then show us yours...if its so damned simple.
I bet you are a manager...they seem to have the same attitudes, its just a little scripting and all the tools already exist don't they, and why do you need a better laptop, isn't that 400MHz P3 good enough, its fine for my presentation software...
I bet you once did a screen full of shell script and think your a guru...Jeez, the people/. are damned good at pulling chains..
Sorry I held out as long as possible by this is just too much, and while I'm on the case, I suppose you could have done a better job than NASA/ESA with their Mars probes.

Doh.. of course I meant RUN it on Solaris 10...gah.
Not true, you can download Doom 3 now and ruin it on Solaris 10... take alook around... So much for productivity then :-)

Hmmm... If SAC got twitchy it would put a whole new slant on 'friendly fire' wouldn't it...
