You're one of those black or white people, aren't you? You realize that there are shades of grey which don't involve a) groping children b) groping grandmothers c) dumping the handicapped out of their chairs, right?
I'm an experienced user, and I dislike Ubuntu. Namely - if you're brand new to linux, you have no idea what anything is called. So how does the launcher, where you have to type in the names of programs, help a new user? Yes, you can click on the icons listed further down, but they're not very user friendly as to what each one means. Unity has actually made ubuntu far less user friendly.
I may snag the other videos before the class completely closes up just to work on on my own time, but I couldn't deal with it during the time constraint. While I've gotten better at juggling self study with work and life, I've apparently lost some of my college skill in balancing formal classes with work/life:)
I honestly tried the algorithms class and didn't get past the first video. I'm not a computer scientist. After the initial example problem where the professor was trying (poorly) to explain how you can break down multiplication and not immediately understanding his new algorithm, I stopped watching and went back to working on studying IMS deployment because its more directly related to my work (I'm a telecom network engineer by trade). I should probably have given it more of a chance, but if I'm drifting off 10 minutes into the introduction, that doesn't bode well, especially when I have other more pressing things to learn about.
Interestingly Comcast has a lot of weird contention internal. For instance, everyone on the engineering side of the house is for net neutrality. Walking through Comcast HQ you'd be amazed by the number of people who are heavily involved in IETF, IEEE, ITU, TIA, and more. But then when you step over to the content side (like NBC) there is a complete paradigm shift to being anti-net neutrality, pro drm, etc. What it looks like up at the C-Level, I can't say. But I can say that the engineers are by and large for open standards, and pro net-neutrality. Source: I work at the Comcast Center.
How exactly? Does watching cable TV ding your quota? No, it doesn't. Watching ondemand content on a set top box doesn't ding it either. So why should watching the same ondemand stuff on your xbox count against you? AFAIK the columbus project (what we Comcasters call the xbox app) still requires you to be on Comcast's network, using your comcast ID, and you only have access to content you've paid for (for instance you can't watch HBO content if you're not an HBO subscriber). Netflix on the other hand is an over the top, internet only service provided by a 3rd party. Its apples and oranges IMO.
Sadly, outside of theatrics going to space doesn't do a whole lot. Plus, NASA can't do much without funding which has been the red headed stepchild of the US budget for decades. Commercial space will probably do more at this point, honestly.
Does anyone else think its an interesting contrast how people in Haiti right now are literally begging for vaccinations against cholera because they know it will kill them, and helicopter parents in the US are fighting vaccinations for the one in a trillion chance that it may in some way cause autism (despite a huge amount of evidence otherwise).
I'm lucky - my fiance is a teacher. If we ever have kids (though we're leaning heavily towards large dogs and a big fat stack of money), there's no way in hell we won't let them get vaccinated. All it takes is for my fiance to get caughed on by some kid with TB and she could bring it home to an unvaccinated child. Also, in her school alone they've encountered several cases of whooping cough. Sadly its idiots making the decisions and little kids paying the price.
So all of these companies will set up a factory overseas via a shell company to sell this equipment abroad. The parts get manufactured wherever, shipped there and assembled, and from there sold to whatever dictator wants to be an asshat. I haven't had a chance to look at the legislation, but I find it hard to believe they think this will work.
Most likely its a numbers thing. If visa has 300 call center reps and they have to call 20 people, it'll be done in a few minutes. However 300 reps calling 10 million will take a much, MUCH longer amount of time. Now these numbers are hyperbolic, but you get the idea. Most likely your branch office didn't have that many people affected by the valve hack (thankfully).
Some schools issue a student a laptop in their freshman year, and upon graduation it is theirs to keep, so 1 isn't impossible. He could, as a senior, legitimately believe that the laptop is his.
This becomes even muddier considering some school districts issue a student a computer when they begin classes, and when they graduate they get to keep the laptop. It would be great if schools could consider focusing on education instead of policing naughty words kids say, but then they have to deal with helicopter parents coming at them from out of the woodwork bitching that its the school's job to make sure little Billy and little Johnny aren't misusing facebook. Kids used to get taught the 3 R's and go home, but now parents seem to want the school to also teach morality and everything mom and dad are supposed to be teaching. What a farking mess. Cool quote, I will keep that one. Thanks!

It depends if those crippled orphans were Iraqi/Afghanistani/Pakistani/Palastinian/.... lets just say brown.
Some of us applaud the mother as well, we just weren't on the jury.
I think it's funny that CSS was completely useless here.
Only here? :)

You beat me to it. No vaccine is 100% reliable, especially when you start poking holes in the shield we've worked to build around our species.

Of course we did! You haven't lived until you've compiled the kernel on an abacus!
