I think that slashdotters should take tigerdirect.com down and boycot those fuckers.
Corporate america is always trying to fuckup a good thing. They always want their hand in shit that they had nothing to do with. America and these dam frizzlious law suit. I wish i was the judge on that case. I would throw all those idiots in jail for wasting tax payers money and my time.
Eventhou Ted might be who he is and is doing alot of the things he is against in this article. You can't close your eyes to the truth of the matter. I have been saying this for the pass year but no one listens. If thing continue going the way they are now corporate america is going to cause to lose our status as the super power. Understand that corporations don't have loyalty to anyone except the person or country that is making them the most money at the time. At the same time people these days wawnt to be feed everything. No one wants to think anymore these days. Look at what MTV and reality TV is doing to an entire generation.

So now this merger will just produce more crap to shove down your throat. The more money these guy's make the more the don't give a shit what you think. The other alternative is become and independent artist which makes thing 100 times harder especial if you don't understand the business but if your sucessful the rewards are much more.
Is it wrong for them to have to pay back the money that the label paid to promote them. Labels just can't spend money on artists and not make their investment back.
I have been working on this project for the pass two years on allowing independent music website a way of selling individual tracks to their users. But after a year of no real bites i decide to turn it up a notch and make it my own business. Which is now . The transition is a whole lot different and a whole lot more stress. You have to be able to hang on and fight for your dreams. Make sure you look for the most efficient ways of promoting your product. Join Newsgroups and etc.... Starting up a business is very difficult so don't expect a cakewalk. Your competition doesn't nee any more competition so you are going to have to be creative in your product and how you market it. I wish i could find forums and website that help guide you through this process but i can't find any right now but if any one knows of any let me know.
Why waste time at Mc Donald's when there are tons of free websites giving the music away for free anyways. For instance http://www.myglobalsound.com has new free music for download every month. I mean Pepsi did it with Apple and they did it right way the first time. In my opinion this Mc Donald's and Sony deal is just not going to work out as expected. I'm not going to buy a big just cause I want free song. Having to collected piece to go to a website and use is no good. The best way is like Apple and Pepsi did it you either win or lose instantly.
My Opinion;
When a new technology comes out everyone pretty much has access to it. You can pay someone to recreate or reverses engineer it, if you have enough cash.
Corporate America has access to all the resources they need to do that. When the Japanese come up with an idea they maxed out it's potential and then sold it.
What Americans do it make it mediocre, market it as the best then sell you an upgrade. That's 2X the money.
Ex. Modems started off with the 300bps modems on the same phone lines that you are using now. With the same phone lines we got up to 56Kpbs. Every 6 month modem speed just doubled why. It's more profitable that way.
Why are people always mad cause musicians try to make a little money? Not every musician can span his or her career 40-50 years. I do agree that corporate America has changed music and made it into something that can be profitable for them. People run around calling artists money-grubbers. What do you expect them to do? That's their occupation. I would think you'd want to be successful at your career too. If you don't like what you hear on the radio, at the store or on TV there are alternatives http://www.myglobalsound.com/ . There are artists that try to make it with the record labels but they can't do it if they don't get the support of their fans or if people that complain about it don't make an effort to seek out an alternative.
I use Mp3Split on my website http://www.myglobalsound.com and it's great. I use it to allow users to upload their music to my site. When a user uploads a track it gives them the choice of choosing which 40 seconds of the track should be streamed. It works great. Linux and PHP is a killer combo.
Though we are relatively new we do provide an alternative and the music that we sell can hold it's own against pop music. We did take a different approach to the single sells one step farther because we will make the CD and mail them to you or you can choose to download the tracks. Check it out and get some free music while your there http://www.myglobalsound.com If you check out the site, you can see that we are not just out to make a profit we really are helping artist get on there feet. We're just some linux and php geeks flinging poo at each other.

We recently launched in March and i know that in do time we will become a force to be reckoned with. I think the people that post on this forum should revisit their childhood before the start posting things If you don't have anythign respectable to say thing keep your mouth shout. If you pride yourself on making people feel little that only shows how big of a person you are.
