I have not figured out this spam thing. I have about 12 email address. Everything from yahoo, gmail, school (college), isp...The whole works. No spam. Well, ok...About 2 or 3 every week. No filtering beyond what is done normally which I do not think is any. (Yes I know yahoo and gmail have filtering but those folders do not have any messages.) None the less I have never figured out how everyone gets so much spam. I am very careful how I use my email addresses but still...
If the boxes get turned in to zombie boxes through the lack of patches a logical next step is to use the raw power to target M$ and diable the Automatic update system at the right time. Then take the new found exploit, gain access to more machines (all of which would have been normally patched) and then mod the install so that the windows update is pointed to some other server where they would never get updates, or they would get the updates you wanted them to have. Yes it is a long process with some good timing and skill involved but it is not impossible to pull off. Once you have some power (illegal Windows boxes) you can use that to gain some more power (legal Windows boxes) and then do as you please.
And don't forget that the playstation was origionaly a cd add in for the Super NES that nintendo backed out of. Sony the partner in the deal produced the playstation. The CD addin was intended to allow the SNES to have the capibility to hold as much game data as the Sega Saturn.
With Mandrake it is possible to do an network install. On the ftp sites they provide a network install floppy. This floppy only needs the address and folder of a copy of the cds. This can be hosted on ftp, nfs, and one other one that I can't remember right now. This would make it very easy to install. Connect to network, have a floppy for each connection, provide the connection information, and the install is run directly from the server. After the computer is booted the floppy can be removed and put in the next computer.
Although it is for small groups, WASTE is an example of what can come. http://waste.sf.net/
