Actually I'm running Panther and just downloaded and played the free song from their store using MplayerOSX. But then again, if you are using an Apple why would you use the Wal-Mart serivce when you have iTunesMS that comes with the system and integrates seemlessly with your existing music library.
See, the fact that it's $0.11 cheaper really doesn't mean anything. There's no big difference between.88 and.99 cents. If the only way that Wal-Mart can figure out how to go after Apple is to charge a dime less for a song, they are not going to be in this business for very long.
Mplayer is awful advice? I've been using MPlayer OS X for a while and have NEVER had a problem with it. What I don't get, however, is why people get so defensive about the tools they use. This is the same kind of bullshit I hear when people go into huge debates about vi v. emacs. It's fucking stupid. They are just tools, use whatever is comfortable to you and don't be so goddamn critical of someone else's choice to get work done or entertain themselves.
Is that hypocritical because I gave my friend shit about using Windows? Maybe, except for the fact that I do more fielding windows questions for friends and family than they actually get work done.
Friend: Hey
Me: Yeah
Friend: I downloaded some banbus vid and it's said XviD on it and I can't play it, what's the fuck is wrong?
Me: You need the XviD codec. It's like divx but it's not
Friend: So how do I play this shit
Me: Download MPlayer OS X
[waits a few minutes... ]
Friend: It's only for Mac.
Me: Ok, download Mplayer that doesn't say OS X on it
[waits a few minutes...]
Friend: What the fuck is a tar file
Me: It's like zip
Friend: Ok
[waits a few more minutes]
Friend: Where the fuck is the exe?
Me: There is none, compile it
Friend: What?
Me: compile it
Friend: Do I do that from the command line
Me: Yeah
[waits a few more minutes]
Friend: "compile *.tar" doesn't do anything
Me: Are you using XP?
Friend: yeah. you built my fucking computer asshole
Me: Oh yeah, that's right. You're fucked. No porn for you
Friend: You knew this all this time didn't you
Me: yeah
Friend: dick!
This is an actual conversation I had last night.

Yeah what is it with those fruity communist bastards charging $1,100 for a G4 laptop.
Seriously, I'm fucking tired of hearing people bitch about Apple's prices. Yes, in the past they were pretty expensive for what you got; but that was a long time ago. They have a desktop or portable for every price range. If you can't aford $1,000 for a laptop maybe it's time to come live in the REAL WORLD(tm)
It really shouldn't be all that difficult:
1. Create Playlist in iTunes that contains the songs you want to rip.
2. Make and AppleScript that tells iTunes to switch the burner to your Virtual CD creation program of choice
3. AppleScript then tells iTunes to burn the playlist
4. Virtual CD Pops up in finder
5. AppleScript then tells finder to open the songs in iTunes
6. iTunes is set up to import any songs opened into the library and encode them in ACC
7. AppleScript then deletes playlist and deletes the original ACC files from your library
8. Wait for the RIAA to kick down your door

Since when does may mean must?

Guess you are out of luck, but you're running Windows XP so you probably have bigger issues than iTunes DRM
I wouldn't go as far as to call him fat. Brother's Samoan, what's he gonna do?
