  1. What really started this case on Australian Court Rules Google's Search Ads OK · · Score: 2

    What this case really was, in google ads, you can put in a piece of text that will be replaced with the keyword the searcher searched for. What happened is a couple of ISP's advertised using this method for competitors business name, an example would be, we have telstra (biggest isp in australia), and optus, optus would of put in a advertisement using %KEYWORD%, and it would of shown their ad with the title of "Telstra internet", so it appeared it was telstra internet when in fact it was an ad for optus. That is what caused this case.

    Google takes these patents subject to existing cross licenses. How many competitors (such as Apple and MS) already have cross licenses with IBM that cover these?

    I'm quite sure there is a clause in the cross licencing that if you take legal action the licencing agreement is null and void.

    What you say is true, if you view the tablets as a pc without a keyword and mouse. However if you view the items as an entertainment device, you'll see there is a very active market for them with consumers. This is where the so called bubble is. However i think the issue is more that the devices are nearing saturation point and this will have a serious impact on the sales of future devices.

    If you read about the 10.1 tab, the design been released in Australia is different from the US one. The reason apple want version of it is to see if it violates the same claims, which 1/2 of them are about design - ie coped the IPAD etc. Samsung will be happy to do this - because they can get damages from apple if the hold up was without merit.

    Here in Australia, when you get a phone,t he contract is 2 years. I still have 3 months left on said contract - the phone? the 3g. The IOS 4 update slowed it down alot, now banning on features for the 3g, that is bad business practice. Just a note for the fanboi's before they start up - the 3gs wasn't released (or announced) when the phone was purchased.

    More money doing it that way, why would the corp's do it before it's needed when it can induce another hardware upgrade cycle at higher profit margins?

    You can download files off their servers without having a paying account. With Hotfile what you are paying for, is an adfree, non delayed downloading of files. What you get for signing up is no delay on download, or having to wait 15minutes in between files, Ad free, Direct downloads, and full speed. You can still use the system without the paid accounts, and because of that, you can't make the claim they are directly profiting off illegal services, what they sign up and pay for, is a higher quality service, not to access illegal files.

    If an ISP starts charging for access to users / sites, then they should become responsible for those users/ data transmitted, remove the safe harbor provisions in the DCMA etc, that would stop a lot of them in the their tracks outright.

    I do a lot of internet marketing, about 12 months ago, for around a week, I kept finding bing results in the google search results for various queries, they would be stupid Not to check out the competitions results and quality level. if you do a site:bing.com search, you'll still find some bing results in the google listings, but no where near as much as they where a year ago.

    I have to agree with this as well, There are licencing issues with h264 and this would allow firefox to use the codec with the windows7 licening deal's which are already in place. MS wouldn't be able to do this for other operating systems (inwhich i couldn't blame them for either).

    Even if you are, if someone shows your wife of a women sitting with you (reguardless of location), what's she going to think, they have a picture of you, what else did you do? This type of thing can easily be used to create alot of damage.

    Well 1/2 the issue with customs cards is they use the word illegal and don't give you the definitions etc, If you ever have watched the "customs" shows you'll see that 95% of the people don't believe they are doing anything wrong, let alone aware of it...

    I am Australian, and have read quite a few stories press releases etc on this subject. The BIG problem with these cards is, illegal to "import" and illegal to "posses" in australia is different. Meaning while it might be legal to own some types in Australia, it's illegal to bring them in (ie import) into the country, and they don't tell you what is what, This is one of the main reasons there has been a large uproar over the issue down under.

    There's two set's of rules, they aren't telling you which one is which, and don't give good examples, it's basically a trap

    But when you think about, i trunk can do the work of 100 men in a day, would the carbon footprint be more or less then the 100 men doing the same job?

    I read the article, and in doing reference checks in the digital age, esp when there is a large chance of fraud, that checking domain reg's etc only came in last. It's not hard to program in automatic checking, and by the sounds of it, would stop how easy this type of scam would be implemented. Also they could do reverse phone number checks etc as well. I'm quite sure if they had that information automatically populated during an application, any attempts to defraud the companies would be found out with alot less time.

    That's funny, when borderlands came out, i got it off steam for $30. Just checked steam again, and yup, it's $79.99, It's obvious that they are charging different amounts for different countries now as well. (in australia for reference) It's cheaper in EB games down at the local mall (even when not on special). go figure..

    I've always though that each person should have two votes, and that two rep's from each "Area" should represent that area, if it was done that way, it would be impossible for one party to get complete control, and then there'd have to be compimizes across the board, if you don't have complete control, you have to start listening (or making deals) with others to get your points across.

    But changing the system like that would require those in power to do so, and do you think they'd give it up ?

    No that is not the real world answer. If you don't get your application working in IE, the people will go find one that does. You might get away with not working in IE if your only designing for the tech crowd, but if your designing for business or the public, then your killing your own business before it's started.
