Last summer my neighborhood was hit by burglers. My window was busted and a lot of things were taken from my house -- a crappy TV, 10GB iPod, a couple of amps -- but my 12" Powerbook was still secured to the desk with a Kensington combination lock. The desk was raided and the book's lock slot was pretty banged up, but the Powerbook was fine. I told my friend about this, but he only took half my advice and bought a Kensington with a Dell laptop. Of course, about a month later, when his house was hit, all that was left of that $2300 Dell was a shard or two of greyish plastic. That, along with all of the falls and dents this Powerbook has sustained in the year since, must have something to do with their making this pretty case out of alumnium.

Says on the Apple website that engraved iPods can't be returned. I wonder if that has anything to do with their offer for "free" engraving. Seems like they've had this offer going for a while now, at least a year. I understand why they can't be returned, but I find it curious that they're encouraging this so much.

I'm waiting for my engraved Mini to be shipped, which will be my third iPod in the past two years, so I'm not trying to defame Apple or the iPod. It's just a thought.

I ordered a Pink miniPod for my girlfriend on 6/28. My estimated ship date of 7/12 was changed to 7/27 a day later, and I live in the U.S. Is Apple stockpiling minis for the worldwide release, or is pink just a really popular color? Perhaps a disgruntled/bitter Apple employee noticed the words "love" and "birthday" in the engraving and decided to ruin both for us. Oh well. I only bought it to be able to touch and see it myself, and her birthday was the excuse I needed to order it. And yes, all of my relationships have been as much of a sham as this one. If only I had one of those symmetrical faces with small features, like on television...

This decision from Michael Moore is not surprising as he has always said that his goal is to touch as many people as possible. I think he simply doesn't care about the money.

Before Bowling for Columbine he might not have. Moore agreed to speak for an hour at Hendrix College (where I attend), booked eighteen months in advance for $50,000 plus expenses. A few months after Bowling for Columbine hit theaters, he changed his price to $120,000 for that same hour of whatever he wanted to talk about. Needless to say, Hendrix's strongly liberal-minded campus and its conservative surrounding cities did not get to see him that year.

I know this because I did bitch work for one of the guys who booked the college's special events. It's also worth noting that Hendrix never charges admission for any of its events, though students do get priority.
