I understand what you're saying. I'm a professional in film and videogames, i know film making, cinematography, animation etc... and I've seen plenty of documentaries where they try to let the event unfold as is.
The difference is usually they document the event as it happens. Micheal Moore does that to some extent, but he is also traveling from location to location to learn and understand while trying to show a point of view. Michael Moore can interview someone and document their beliefs, behaviors and situations and it is still a report that is valid of being called a documentary.
It just is a different kind of documentary film more along the lines of a report. I've seen a great documentary on a farm family and they followed them day in and day out for over a year and made a great film out of it, showing their challenges in life as it happened. So i understand what you're talking about but Moore doesnt have that kind of luxory when he's investigating an idea. You cant follow a single family for 2 years and cover the health care or the scope of his arguement.
Definatly there is an editorial aspect to his films but i'm certain there is a lot of discovery in his adventure. I mean yes he sets out to see if there is a problem in the healthcare system, and trys to find evidence where that is true. It is a report, based on a question he set forth which is "is there a problem with our healthcare service and how do we compare world wide... because i feel there is problem"
I dont think that is any different than saying... "well running a farm is difficult, and i know the family doesnt make a lot of money, and they have children and i'm sure its a strain on their marriage... i think it would be a good idea to document this family for the next 2 years"

Vista's search is better than google because googles doesnt integrate with the OS well mainly because it keeps with the google web browser search interface. It looks like their webpage, when you search on your desktop. Which means it doesnt really integrate with the explorer functions such as copy and paste, or scan file for antivirus, etc. It's basically just like google's web search. It's rather limited in its sorting features, it doesnt search specific folders as easy.
And really these arent unique to vista's search. The old MSN Desktop search on XP (same exact thing in Vista, althoguh in vista it is heavily integrated into the gui a lot better).. was and is better than googles search on xp.
Google's main problem is that its a web page result basically. It isnt a real OS search like OSX has, or Vista. You cant dynamically scale the thumbnails perform standard operations on the file right out of the search results list, and its just clumsy and counter productive in all aspects really.

64-bit Vista is running on my workstation pc with 8gigs of ram and i love it. I'm so glad to be out of the 32bit world where ram limited every dam thing i did. As a 3d modeller and animator, i need all the ram i can get. Even with photoshop, working on pictures from a canon eos-1ds is a ram intensive task. Photoshop quickly eats up the 2gig limit in 32bit, and atleast in 64-bit, under emulation, the 32bit task can eat up all 4 gigs. Although i wish Adobe would get off their lazy fucking asses and write a 64-bit Photoshop. They keep saying they wont do it. Which says to me... Adobe sucks:)

Even if it did, it wouldnt matter. Google is in the wrong. Gmail doesnt integrate with MSN Messenger the way it does with Google Talk. I cant use Live search instead of Google's search on Googles website.
We're talking about MS's OS and a basic requirement of an OS. Google's own desktop search is a TERRIBLE tool for desktop file searching. It has poor sorting, poor previewing, horrible ui, it doesnt intergrate with the shell at all, its basically a web ui with a list of files on your pc. It's not as if they couldnt just make a real gui and have it integrate with windows themselves. Just look at MS's desktop search on XP vs Google's on XP. MS's actually had a functioning right click menu that had all of the features of the explorer. Google.. well you could click on a link that said "open folder" and then you could use the regular file explorer to do things.
GOOGLE's desktop search sucks and they're crying about it. They couldnt even make a good integrated search on XP, where the playing field was level... and btw.. XP still had its own classic file searching ui that windows has had for years... and google didnt bitch then did they?
This is Google becoming the new Microsoft, where Bullshit matters, and quality software does not. Google is the company that releases BETA's as final software... You know the thing we all bitch at MS for supposedly doing...

I suppose Adobe should be forced to open up photoshop so you can install Corel Painter's brush tool into Adobe's program? The fact that Photoshop has plugins is nice, but they didnt need to open up photoshop to outside developed plugins.

The ideas and innovation from Google, have been quite small in the big picture of things. They were lucky, thats it.
