it boils down to MONEY.
The MPLAYER people are not looking for monetary gain, but in order to further their ends through the courts, it will take significant funds and effort.
I would love to see KISS open up their platform (I would love to be able to write my own software for the playa (think of mame or just a better user interface.)) this would do nothing but increase the sales of the players...
But it is not going to happen, what legal team is going to take this on without being payed up front if there is no prospect of a percentage of winnings.
It all comes down to money, sadly.

So you are left with the requirement to copy this into RAM and run it from there... but you have to write protect the ram once copied...
