WTG NCSU! We've got Windows labs, yes, but they're hard to come by anywhere other than the chemistry building and maybe a bit in the math building. The main CSC department lab (the only one open 24/7) is split about 70/30 with Redhat and Sun boxes. No windows machines in sight. The EE/CPE department has a completely Sun lab, and a few Linux boxes scattered around. We do have one Windows lab, but its the smallest in the building...I think its mostly used for orientation/freshman classes, since I haven't had a lab there in the past 3 years. The humanities building has a few OSX labs; I'm rarely around there, but I've never seen a Windows lab. The best signs though: all over the walls in the main ECE building is "Check out the Penguin labs in room X"!
It seems to me that this move by Microsoft to withhold future versions of IE from their current operating systems might backfire. I've never been a fan of having to change the OS completely every couple years, and the hardware specs and integrated "security" (that is, RIAA controls) make me skeptical of Longhorn. For myself, this will likely be enough of a push to get me to say "forget it" to the next iteration of Windows, and spend the time to properly learn to use Linux.
Yeah, it was released first on the 13th, but was updated again on the 28th. My guess is they found an additional vulnerability (related to this worm?) and added an update for that problem as well.
From the MS update site:
Issued: April 13, 2004
Updated: April 28, 2004
You know, normally these updates are available a good 3 or 4 months before the worm becomes available. This one was updated about 3 days ago. And MS claims to be beefing up their security efforts....
believe their gonna force me post my personal information on a global public database. I have very good reasons for NOT posting it.
1) I don't have a correct email address listed, so I don't get spam. 2) I don't have a correct snail mail address listed, so I don't get junk mail 3) I don't have a correct phone number listed, so I don't get telemarketers.
Seems to me like this will be a huge benefit to any company who's ever solicited me in a way I hate. Score: Businesses, 1; Users, 0
He'll need it to cover the bandwidth bills after we're through...

I think google nicely sums up what malware really is
The RIAA sues ClearChannel for illegally suing anyone for any reason having to do with music before they had a chance to get in on the fun.

Looks like MS is gonna shell out $250K for this one, actually...
I think I'm getting a nosebleed. Good thing I went with EE instead of Physics...
