yes, however, is not the desired, (lesser of the evils), when Slashdotting, a slowing/denial of the network connection? As opposed to a breaking of the server due to limitations in configuration.
My point being, if you place the same server on a larger bandwidth, it would survive such that the bottle neck is the bandwidth *not* the server.

When Symantec software spreads like a worm from local distribution chains, ( BestBuy, Staples, FutureShop etc. ), demand for computer repair goes up.
Why? Because their software breaks every machine it touches. Worse, the computers they are installed on have not just one Virus, but many.
I tell my customers its like selling a condom with a hole in it. You could have had so much more fun without the protection they weren't providing in the first place.
A false sense of security is worse than no security at all.
Looks like the bandwidth is good, too bad mysql couldn't forge past the memory problem. Maybe a OS limitation?
It would be nice to know how to harden a system from slashdotting so that you can optimize the failure to occur in bandwidth, not the system.

"You're new here aren't you?"
:P
Dam, I keep forgetting to use that lower UID# I purchased on ebay.
yes, that's the crux of my question.
Bandwidth aside, what are the ideal parameters to harden a server for the slashdot effect?
No doubt, I've seen enough PHP/SQL errors to know that they certainly are not up to par.
It would be nice to have a list of URLs that can survive with an accompanied analysis for the community of what recipe worked.

Ya I've heard on here that MySQL and PHP are a good idea to stay away from if preparing for a Slashdotting.
Apache, should be ok though, no?
It was interesting that this site was down in under 10 comments.
Glad some seen this not as flaimbait but as a question of understanding.
thanks for the reality check, my linux bias make me want to jump on MS errors. :P

...and using /. to do it!
lol, beat me to it.
Can you post your account on eBay?
#56 here I come!
That is the best response I've seen to a /. proofreader.

And I do not believe I have ever seen this quote before.
If so you should take credit or give credit to it.
"The thing with language is that it is defined not in books but by what people say."
-biglig2, Slashdot 2005 ?
Great info.
That should certainly take care of any concerns healthwise.
Now its time to start building like crazy with this stuff.
And I do mean "crazy".
You could design some serious sci-fi looking buildings.
That is interesting to say the least.
Technology moving ever onward.
Although FDA approved, I'm still left wondering what those fibers will do in the lungs.
Can't see them breaking down cause concrete is poured wet, no?
lol, Hi-Karate or Brute is a smarter choice!
lol, gotta love /. humor
The most educating part of the article is here: function.mysql-connect :P
Now watch the server get a real slashdotting from all the refreshes.

nice web page, btw
point taken
not to be argumentative, you could say that for just about any story though.
*sigh* This story has been around for years. Here is a better resolution version from 2000: Artifical Retinas

Last attempt failed due to the third stage of the Volna rocket to separate from the spacecraft
Wonder what that benchmark would be if you installed the FULL Norton package on it?
This bull reminds me of those advertisements for weight loss.

And is it safe to inhale the fibers if said airplane makes a big ol' mess?

Not I, maybe "others" though.
exactly.

no thanks.
Why do this when others are holding companies hostage for thousands?
Could you get K-Meleon to work on it?
