i doubt every beta release will be announced everytime on/., its just that they want to inform the masses that changes are happening with slack, and not to give up all hope, and when its all said and done, itll be slack 7.
learning the slack way is learning the real way. its good to have stuff like RPM to help you keep track of installed software, but to really learn something, you cant really have any second hand help, except stuff like books and documentation, and word of experienced mouth.
I don't know about any of you, but when you were a kid (10-16 roughly), wasn't defiance a part of your life? Like most of your course of action was _soley_ just to defy authority? All this program will do is introduce more children to hacking at an earlier age. How many burn-outs have you knew throughout your life, even though the D.A.R.E. program was crammed down our throats from grade 1 to high school? Good luck D.O.J.
This will look very good for Linux doubters everywhere. Tid-bits of info like this are golden when trying to convince your boss or supervisor to switch to something more powerful (linux, *BSD, etc). It also tells the people up top that Linux is no joke, and it's here to stay.
Darwin owns my way of life. Survival of the fittest. No time for drug addiction, no time for smoke and booze. If you've got your piece, go in for the kill, bitch. It's your own time, time to shine.
It seems like a decent idea. its always better to get more people working on one thing, cause the vast amount of knowledge being shared equates to something that is of high quality, and something you can trust for referrence... i'm all for this.
so, uhm, whats wrong with running gnome or kde, as long as it works for you and is more productive for you than anything else? Do you have to use nothing but twm and your own custom distribution to be considered elite nowadays?
I don't know why they would want to change the whole ppga setup... we should all be grateful for the 300a, although it would be nice to know Intel is listening...
There are a lot of good arguments, on both sides. I have pirated software before. not to the point where i was costing the business millions of dollars (or even thousands), or running k-rad 0day ftp sites, but I look at it like this: say I really want to get into the CAD field, and a copy of AutoCAD is, let's say too much. Why should I be deprived of learning that piece of software because I can't afford it. I realize there are alternatives, some times free, but what it comes down to, is the fact that a lot of software designers put a really high price tag on their software. Especially when there's a team of designers, so the work is even distributed. I think if software prices went down, piracy would drop a lot. I know, if I saw the latest video game for $10 or $15 dollars, i would probably buy it, cause it's nice to have the media there, incase you need to reinstall. im sure a lot more people would buy their software too, so it would kind of even out... they really need to do their research and find a happy medium.
When they invent off of ideas, its A-OK, but the minute someone sells something that looks "like" what they have, they get to sue. I guess apple owns the copyright to an all-in-one computer housed in a transparent box. sounds fair, right?
this should be a nice (lethal?) combination. BeOS's GUI was cool, but just think of all the great themes you can use. think people will download the beos theme?;-)
you've never heard of the phrase 'lucky seven'? :)

Hmmm, didn't see any screenshots... I wonder if it could do anything useful. not to mention the site feels like it's running off of a 56k modem.
