One of the benefits of PCI Express is that it can run around 5 metres or so.
Given the nasty big heatsink on this puppy, I expect within a year we'll be able to buy external PCI Express gfx cards.
Independent power and cooling from the CPU box - makes sense. Plus, you could potentially daisy chain them for alternate scanline rendering or fancier models of distributed rendering.
a 33Mhz system with a 14.4 modem actually has a lot of uses. It'd make a decent (but very low bandwith) home firewall
Great idea... as long as you are not paying for the electricity. Compare the monthly cost of running a 486-ish system to a modern, $20 hardware router and you talking about a difference of several hundred dollars over several years.
What's often overlooked in the current debate is how US corporations are gaming the US tax system using by offshoring. They get tax credits for spending money to invest overseas, then avoid paying taxes on the profits fromthose overseas investments by keeping these investments offshored, out of reach of the IRS, and within low-or-zero tax envirnonments of other countries so desperate for employment that they give the corporations a free ride.
AAC 128 is not low-quality, it's far superior to MP3 128. It's more like 192 mp3
Really? Prove it. Or are you basing this on your own perceptions? Personally, I couldn't say what 192 Kbps CBR was like because I usually do ~200 Kbps VBR Lame MP3s or ~180 Kbps Oggs. However, if you are happy with 128 Kbits then more power to you - I simple prefer the higher "resonance" I can hear with around ~200 Kbps VBR losssy compression.
The real rate of US unemployment is currently firting with 10% but is generally underreported while EU reporting uses less "massaged" unemployment statistics. There are regions within the US that have lower, and regions that have higher. Just as there are regions in the EU that currently have 3% unemployment, and others with 15% unemployment. There are certain areas of the EU that are underdeveloped, centrally planned, and economically slumbering, but there are other hotspots that are booming and the shark-like capitalist hordes there would laugh in your face if you called them "socialist". And by the time they had finished laughing to distract you they would have taken your company with a leveraged buyout, gutted the assets, shipped the excess labour off to China, and perhaps re-employed your son as a janitor.
to "gamble" on-line in a simulated casino game is insane. Does anyone here really believe that the deck, dice or wheel will be fair on a big bet in an on-line game?
Exactly why it should be legalized within the US and regulated. Mandatory percentage payouts, with auditing of accounts and code to enforce the regulations. Similar to how Vegas is regulated. If you make it criminal to operate online gambling, then only criminals will operate online gambling.
Oh yeah, AAC won the listening test over here too : http://www.cdfreaks.com/news/9217
You know these particular "results" were discussed recently in/. at great length. If you look at the "winners", you will see that none of them "won" by a greater margin than their inherent error bars or confidence measures. Therefore it is incorrect and unsupported to say that any particular codec "won". Have you ever taken elementary stats?
And you are not stuck with the typical iTMS low-quality 128Kbit file. Most of the Russian sites let you choose your quality and give you the option to do "online encoding" where you can select the settings you want. When the pop up screen shows up you can hit switch to advanced mode toward the bottm and you get the following options:
You can choose between the LAME or BLADE codec and 128, 160, 192, 256, and 320 kbps for each (constant bitrate). Or you can choose LAME variable bitrate at 128, 160, 192, or 256.
If you enjoy these services, 3MP3 should be your first stop to see if you can find what you are looking for at the lowest price. Then I'd move to allofmp3, followed by clubmp3.ru, and then DELit.

Yes, it's real.
Yes it is.
1 GB of storage, and with IMAP or POP3
GMail currently is web-only for users, no POP or IMAP.
there is no delete button in Gmail
Nope, currently most everything is done using a JS dropdown. Personally I'd prefer a few more buttons!
It'll say a lot about the gullibility of the news media if this is indeed a joke
No joke.
I am retarded, this is an April fools joke.
Go with your first instincts.
I'm 50-50 on the fence as the whether this is real or not
Real.
Mi>It sounds like a Google AF joke to me
Nope.
I doubt it's a joke.
You are right.
Is this an April Fool's Joke or for real?
Real.
Honest
Is it a bad sign when the really good ideas are hoaxes
It's no hoax.
it was an april fool's joke
You are wrong.

Prothon is a new industrial-strength, interpreted, prototype-based, object-oriented language
They want their new economy bullshit buzzword generator back.
Every year it drains it aquifier and every year it gets less and less. It isn't refilling. The chance Inida had to avoid it it lost in the 90's.
Have you ever looked at a map of the US aquifer system? More details here. I'd be most worried about the Ogallala Aquifer that serves Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska. That's draining quickly. Another generation or two and its Ogallala's remaining water resources will not be economically viable to extract. Bye bye US grain production. Of course, the reduction in Canadian natural gas exports will have shut down the US fertiliser production long before then...
"Where does it end? Legal drugs and whores?"
Yes please.
I am so scared of Europe with it's socialist policies that lead to high unemployment and little incentive to seek employment.

another moron who does not know that AAC is a better encoder than MP3
You're calling me a moron? Why don't you prove to me that 128Kbps AAC sounds "better" than ~192Kbps Lame VBR MP3. Otherwise you're just talking smack.
All hail FatWallet:
Here are some legal (in Russia!) MP3 download sites - most flat fee:
allofmp3.com
This site is locally legit and songs can be downloaded for as little as $0.01 per MB. That's around 3 cents per song.
DELit
Unusual emphasis on hard rock and metal acts (east European and Russian youth apparently worship metal acts)
3MP3.ru
$4.55 per month for unlimited downloads.
