Gentoo can still be forked, if necessary, right? ( I don't think it will be necessary, but given the recent XFree mess, one never knows)
i was under the impression that the xfree mess is to be replaced by x.org in a handful of major distros. i know gentoo has already made it's support for x.org known. there's a package for it in gentoo already (xorg-x11) as i did a quicky google search before finished this last line.:) (i couldn't find it w/ an 'emerge search' tho.)
Why else go through so much to keep obviously stolen property from it's rightful owner?
although i agree w/ you on every point, the difficulty was that the domain name sex.com wasn't property & therefore couldn't be stolen...sounds ludicrous, but there it was. were they morons? yes. dickheads, absolutely.
But the MythBusters would screw this test up just like they screw up so many others. The two are, I'm sure, wonderful special effects tinkerers, but they lack the depth of thought truely test these myths.
they did do one on the microwave, testing the "superheating" of purified water (adding a drink mix to super heated water & have it "explode".) also, they did the light bulb test (causing it to glow). i think they also nuked tinfoil & silverware (to test if they'd explode, of course they didn't). yeah, they botch things up on occasion, but tend to be more reasonable than the subject of the whole post.
I don't buy it! How can they move that stuff, not only physically, but also logically? To re-plug the servers, they need:
a suitable network, with configured routers, auth./DNS servers...
logins/passwords for the servers
knowledge, and not only general tech but specific setup of that company servers
i suspect they took out the hds & disconnected the raid cans & pluged them into another machine.
Normally (in democratic/free world), an investigation means a judge, some reasons, some rule brake, some arguments on why the police is acting.
earlier in december, president bush signed legislation expanding the authority of the bureau and other u.s. authorities conducting counterterrorist intelligence. the law authorizes them to demand records from financial companies including casinos without seeking court approval.
in pittsburgh, we have a video classifieds television channel that advertises dirt cheap homes starting at just a few thousand dollars. should be able to find a bunch at http://www.hud.gov/ too.
according to distrowatch.com, it is Mandrake and Fedora.
we didn't have fancy languages like python or c++ or even basic. we had assembly language and we entered code using punched cards & we liked it!

ok, i'll bite. how do you suggest the fine be donated to schools or research if the original donation already exceeds the maximum?
yeah, it kinda pissed me off too. 5 points for insightful & he's wrong. a DOS attack yes, but not distributed.
agreed. the mere fact that everyone is reading it on slashdot is proof that is was successful (read 1.7 kb/s on the download. :)
geese, i remember the day of baking soda powered submarines. if i see someone playing w/ this "prize" in my pool, i'll be sure to get out.

of course, damaging or destroying the money intentionally is a felony.

agreed, it seems we're spawning an even lazier bunch of programmers then ourselves.
