  1. Re:What can they do? on MPAA Investigates Apex DVD Player · · Score: 2

Slash doesn't like much of anything these days, em being a notable example. Especially in extrans mode, which is what the author of the parent used.

Besides, if someone is activly re-reading these posts in late 2055, expecting something of value, then they deserve to be disappointed.

I'll take 'em until the comments are so stale I cease to laugh at them. The comments are still pretty funny; especially the mental picture I got of Whoopi Goldberg singing 'Uncle Fucker'..

There'll inevitably be another two: One when Williams does it, and one when someone makes a MP3 of the joyous event available. Save your wrath for the latter..

Happen to know how much a late night TV spot runs these days? We could do that in five seconds, accompanied by a pretty graphic and pay little. I'll be willing to bet it wouldn't even stretch a single paycheck.. And the singular act of defiance.... Mmmm.. Earning me some useful karma! Far better than the flyer handout I did at the cinema..

Ponzi was a certifiable intellect in comparison to some of the outlandish stuff perpetrated in the name of 'internet-business'.. Postal coupons, a couple of plausible lies, and some investors walked away happy. 'E-Commerce' was a implausible corporate lie based on the lies of it's vendors, further embellished by the lies of the users, and I'm afraid none are going to walk away happy. Except those of us that always believed that 'Eanything' was pure bullshit. Perhaps when all the 'dot-coms' fail, the Internet will return to being a communication medium instead of something that should be 'owned', that requires a 'presence', thqat required a new marteting 'buzzspeak' every week when someone furthered the dot-com game of spam, or invaded the privacy of the global community of users to 'direct-market' them.

Fuck you all. You had a chance to play with our toy, and now that you're out of cash you've got to give it back and go home crying to your investors. Good riddance too..

'Every' was an overstatement. But consider this. How well could the issues be presented in fifteen seconds? We'd be lucky to make it through 'The MPAA and RIAA are per[blip]'. But consider this; if even 1/8 of the people viewing ask someone, and get a minute spiele of the issues, how much airtime is it equivalent to? And how many people is that that are, if anything, better informed? And what about those with no interest? Well, they'd have changed the channel to watch the 'Seinfeld' rerun anyway.. ..

Everyone seems to complain that this isn't an effective way of getting the point across. It is! Every 'innocent' that sees it is going to see the 2600 URL splashed across the last few seconds of the spot, say to him/herself 'What the hell was that? Must be some computer thingie.' and promptly ask the well-informed geek down the street. He/she'll be able to get the message across far more effectivly than the fifteen seconds of airtime they could afford could ever hope..

Nope. Not that bus arch. It wouldn't be terribly difficult, but there aren't too many of the early MCA models out there. Demand for such a 'port' would be exceedingly low. On the upside, MCA on Intel and the RISC arch themselves are supported, so I suppose all it would really take is one moderatly good kernel hacker, two lackeys and a working example.

I wonder how much the company would charge me for a 2xx series? Probably nothing.. Perhaps I've got a project..

Buy him a book, point him at a test system, and he'll be up to speed before management has sorted out the project specs. Many, many times I've been given the 'fun' stuff to do, not because I knew 'X' intimatly, but because I could learn 'X' well enough in a couple of days. Granted, I've been given some weird stuff 'Jim, you'll be taking over for someone in Marketing this week. Here's the proceedure manual' or 'We know you haven't touched VC++ since 4.0, but we need a .DLL wrapper to let the Unix box screen values coming into the DB', but on the whole it's been great for me and the company..
